AR12824-AR12826: Are they coming back?

Post by H-Alpha »

Dear all,

Between the 23rd and the end of May, we all enjoyed the amazing activity of AR12824-AR12826. As they were leaving, the 1st of June Alexandra made the following interesting comment in a relevant post:

viewtopic.php?f=4&t=32084&p=295295#p295295

"These two regions are fairly large and active so I bet you in 2 weeks time we will see them reappear around the east limb. They will be given a different number, but if you mark 2 weeks in your diary I guarantee they will be back in some shape or form" and I answered:

"@Alexandra: I appreciate your comment regarding the lifetime expectancy of the two active regions. Let's bet! ;-)
They should be expected by the 11th or 12th of June, so let's see if just one of them or both will honor us once more! :-)
They should be at the same latitude I suppose, from what I have read so far."

I wonder if the new coming AR(s) at the northern hemispere are really our old friends... They will start to be visible by the right time (12 June). Although they will be given a new name, is there a way scientifically to know if these are the AR12824-AR12826? Or we can just say "it is likely" because of the position and time of reappearence?

Best wishes,
Alexandros

That most probably is them :hamster: but I don't know exactly how to say for sure. Sometimes on Spaceweather.com they do say new AR... which was formerly AR...
