June 12th - Ha (Date Corrected)

Post by MapleRidge »

Hi all...

My intentions to be home from work by mid morning evaporated as most busy days do, and I had almost given up on trying to image as the sun/cloud ratio was not going in my favour in the early afternoon. I did a quick look with the PST and that convinced me to try.

These images are full disk Ha through the LS80T/LS75FHa/B1800Ha and ASI174MM camera. The first is a composite of separate disk and limb images, and the second is a longer exposure to pull up the odd floating prom in the NE. I've seen a prom with this appearance before, but it certainly looks cool ;)

The seeing was poor so I put the 3x focal extender on the LS80T and got some slightly higher resolution images of the main areas of interest. The image below is a 2 frame mosaic of the eastern and northern disk. There was a large area showing activity in the SE and a new AR just starting to show in the NE. A large prom was also associated wit this new AR...now maned AR2833.

The next image is centred on the western disk and shows AR2832:

The image below is centred on the SW limb where there is a nice filament and some activity showing near near the limb:

3x_LS80T_DSII_14_33_50-IMP.jpg (364.45 KiB) Viewed 485 times
The final set of images are longer exposures to pull up the proms:

NE.jpg
NE.jpg (108.62 KiB) Viewed 485 times

Floater.jpg (24.05 KiB) Viewed 485 times
The floater on the NE limb was hard to get with long exposures, poor seeing, and increasing cloud cover.

That covers the session from Saturday. I'm glad I went out after-all ;)

A totally beautiful set, Brian. Love the proms and specially the floating prom. That was a great catch, we do not see that very often…

Those are really nice. Also great to know what the Sun will look like a day ahead of time (June 14) ;)

That's fab Brian, I love the full disc shot as the floating prom looks like a UFO hovering over the Sun :)
