15June: Hi-Res H-alpha of Proms and AR12833

Post by p_zetner »

Hi Everyone.
Here are the results of a June 15 imaging session with above average seeing conditions. The C8 Edge / Daystar 0.6QPE system was used with a slight modification to my telecentric focal extender to give higher magnification (focal ratio f/60). The first AR image was taken at f/60 while the remaining shots employed focal reduction to about f/45.
Cheers.
Peter.

Amazing images, Peter. Your 8" solar imaging setup delivers excellent results in both surface and prominences.

Thanks for sharing.

Thanks Valery!
I hope to experiment with the Lunt/Daystar double stack one of these days soon.
All the best.

Thanks Chris and Alexandra!
Sometimes I think I get a bit heavy handed with the sharpening and a little too timid with the levels / contrast.
Here are reprocessed versions of the highest magnification AR images.
I'm trying to get a bit more "drama" without sacrificing detail.
Any feedback is welcome!
Cheers.

Impressive shots, Peter.

For these highres shots, a bit more contrasty midtones definitely works for me. Looks good!

Fabulous images, Peter!
Your setup is adjusted very well, the etalon first of all.
How many frames you stacked for both proms and AR?
regards
Leo

Thanks Jochen, Eric, Leo and James!
Jochen: Thanks for your opinion. I still "waffle" back and forth between the higher and lower contrast versions.
Leo: The ARs were stacks of 50 out of 2000 while the proms were 25 out of 2000. It's a bit low in number of stacked images so they are a bit noisier than I'd like but I prefer the better detail.
Cheers.
Peter
