June 17 2021 Observations

Post by DeepSolar64 »

Session time is from 14:12 to 15:15 UTC. The skies are clear and a deep blue! The seeing is just a bit above average. The temperature is 72F.

Coronado SolarMax II 90 DS. 32x, 44.5x and 64x ( Ha )
AR12833 is an easy target in the NE. I can see it's spot and plage easily. I can see a tiny filament immediately to it's east. I see 4 others further out from it's NE to SE. Two of these are really nice. One NE of it near the limb is an obvious loop! I can also see another patch of plage in the NW.

I can see a ruffled disturbed area in the SW that contains a couple of thin filaments.

I can see several prominences around the limb. The NW limb shows the brightest and best ones, one of these looks like a ragged loop. There is another on the SW limb. and fainter ones on the NE and SE limb.

The mottles are easy and I can see the spicule layer on the limb.

Celestron NexStar 102GT w/Altair wedge and 540nm filter. 55x and 110x ( WL )
The large spot of AR12833 looks nice today. A penumbra showing mottled radial detail is surrounding a textured-edged umbra. I can see two nearby pores. A larger pore NW of the big spot and a smaller pore NE of the big spot. I can see faint faculae east of AR12833. I can also see another faint patch of faculae in the NW and some hard to see patches in the SE and SW. In lesser seeing they would have been invisible. I see no other spots or pores anywhere on the disc outside of AR12833.

The granulation itself is easily seen though the seeing isn't quite good enough to get the individual cells clearly at 110x.

Carpe Diem!

James
