Intense prominence activity animation in fair seeing (reprocessed)
I reprocessed my low res videos of the huge proms on 16 June. This time I try to upscale the animation to 1440p and upload the video to Vimeo for less compression.
Please, do me a favour and play this thing in 1440p resolution. The youtube's 1080p still have way too much compression.
The vimeo has even better compression.

Enjoy!

Hi Minh
Great video, amazing work. The close-up shows the spicules swaying like grass in the wind. Vimeo is better than YouTube.

Very nice Minh. The prominence moves and swirls around like a dust devil. And look at the spicules move like grass in the wind!

Re: Intense prominence activity animation in fair seeing (reprocessed)
Excellent Minh!
Did you try with Vimeo or not yet?
I observed some ImPPG artifacts on your solar surface, but your prominence and 'sky' around them is perfect an clear with nothing!
I get the exact opposite result... A lot of ImPPG artifacts on and around the prominences and nothing (visible) on my surfaces!
How do we manage to get the opposite results? any idea?
Best wishes,
Alexandros

Re: Intense prominence activity animation in fair seeing (reprocessed)
Thanks Alex. Not sure what you meant by ImPPG artifact but if you are referring to the grainy look of my solar disk then no, it does not come from ImPPG but rather from the upscaling process, my ImPPG output is spotless. Some of the noise on the solar disk came from pushing the shadow up (my image is inverted so the solar disk became the "shadow" and the outspace became highlight). The flickering on my disk mostly comes from the rhythmic oscillation of the Chromosphere.H-Alpha wrote: ↑Fri Jun 18, 2021 5:27 pm Excellent Minh!

I watched your animation. And it's clear the grainy noise on the outer space is not from ImPPG but rather result of you pushing the shadow too much to recover the chroms.
We have opposite noise pattern due to the fact that we're using opposite process (mine if inverted, negative and your is positve).
There are 2 approach to solve your noise on the chroms:
1. The thing with digital image processing is if you push the shadow up, you will bring out the noise, there's no getting around that.
So on solar imaging, especially when on the limb it's recommended to invert the image, turn the disk into shadow and the outerspace into highlight. This way, when recovering detail from chroms, actually you are pushing the highlight down, drowns out the noises from the low SNR of outerspace (due to low brightness nature of this region). On the solar disk (now shadow) you also have to push up the shadow and add some curves to enhances contrast, but due to higher SNR of this region (due to higher Brightness when capture) the noise in this region generally more controlled and easier to deal with.
2. The only way to get better chroms is exposing more to the right when capturing without clipping highlight (keep the histogram to the right as much as possible) and stack more frames to get higher SNR and bitdepth. How many frame are you stacking for each capture? Mine is 120

Re: Intense prominence activity animation in fair seeing (reprocessed)
Thanks so much for the explanations Minh!
I am stacking 100 out of 3000 for the animations and 100 out of almost 5000 for photos.
How many do you capture for the long animation frames before stacking?
Best wishes,
Alexandros
