The sunspot continues with spotlets on June 19

Post by gabrieli »

It was one of those "do I set up or not" days. The sky was hazy and full of clouds and became even more hazy as the day wore on. Two good outcomes from this day were that I discovered why 2 of my cameras wouldn't work properly with Firecapture 2.7beta and that my hand control had built in compensation for backlash although I haven't found the right settings yet. Lately, when I tried to make small corrections in declination while tracking, the image would make a sudden jump. My initial corrections reduced the speed of that jump.I'll keep playing with this option. I found that a camera that I found difficult to use for H alpha due to its fixed pattern noise is a very good camera for white light, the ASI178 (1/2 inch sensor, 6.2 Mp). It exhibits no fixed noise pattern in white light. One great quality of this camera is that you can reduce its ROI significantly and still have a respectable pixel count in your images.

The following image was taken with this ASI178 (ROI = 1200p x 1200p) on a 180 Mak working at 5400mm shielded by Baader 3.8 solar film.I also used a Baader SulphurII filter on the camera for calming. Images taken so far with this filter have been in less than ideal conditions.

A fabulously-excellent capture and processing Lou.
One of the best and well-showing the large number of spots forming around the central-core.

Thanks for sharing

This view is familiar. Though the resolution of yours is a bit greater I got an excellent view of this system in good seeing today with my C102 F10 refractor. The sulphur II filter really works! I used both 430nm and 540nm filters.
