WL to H-alpha animation of NW, 22 June 2021

Post by H-Alpha »

Hi all,

While waiting for the stacking of all frames of a long animation in H-alpha, I thought to combine photosphere and chromosphere and in one animation.
There was a very beautiful prom at the NW limb today, so hope some people may have made nice images. I am eager to look at the posts...

Lunt130MT masked @102 mm, ASI290MM. The WL is actually the Blue wing of H-alpha.
Please give the gif the time to load properly.

This is a really good idea and looks very nice! Which software did you use for blending the images gradually?

H-alpha: Baader D-ERF, Sharpstar 61 EDPH II, Altair Astro 102 f/7, Quark, reducer and ASI174mm.

Tommi and Alexandra, this is very easy! Just a few clicks in Photoshop. Hope GIMP has the same commands, but did not have the time to look for them so far. In Photoshop you open the two photos as two separate layers (same if GIMP). You go to Window menu --> Timeline and then once you created the two frames in the timeline, there is a cross dissolve "Motion tool" that creates all intermediate frames (as many as you wish). Easier to have a look at this 3min tutorial youtube video, rather that having me describing it it fully in words. :-)
