June 24 2021 Observations

Post by DeepSolar64 »

I observed white light today a little after 1:30pm EDT local time ( US ) using my 8x32 Lunt SUNoculars. It started clearing up late and I did not have time to set up the scopes for having to start getting ready for work. I could see the spot of AR12833 closing in on the NW limb with a close look. I could also easily see the large patch of faculae in the NE. I tried for the faculae in the SE as well as the faculae of AR12833 but could not see either of them. Even laying on my back on the back deck to steady the image, my heartbeat still interferes with trying to pick out hard to see detail. It's practically impossible to keep the binocs perfectly still.

Keep looking up!

James

Good effort in trying to bino observe James, but without a tripod type mount is somewhat difficult.

The SE faculae is fairly faint anyway..

Cheers

Terry,
There is no way to tripod mount the Lunt 8x32 Binocs. Still it's pretty neat knowing you can see faculae using them.

Hi James,

Sounds like you need to get creative with an engineered solution to mount the binoculars :)

That's the problem with binoculars, you do need to somehow rest your arms on something like a wall but I am guessing the altitude of your Sun is much higher than I am used to.
Well done for spotting the faculae!! :hamster:

It would be hard to use a tripod with the binoculars. The sun is so high when I usually observe that I would be at a very awkward angle to try to look through them, besides I got them as a very portable quick view option for when I have little time and am really rushed and/or it is mostly cloudy. For quick views in absence of a scope. A tripod would reduce that a bit. To gain something one must usually lose something. There is usually a compromise. The little Lunt 8x32s are good for what they do.
