Great images Peter
Why are the proms black, have you inverted them? if so, keep them positive

Re: SUN 2021/7/2
Then I am baffled as to why they are black, the sky should be black and the proms should be white unless you have inverted them. Can you describe how you do your post processing? I am presuming they are white when you see the live view with the camera?

Interesting looking images, I am not good for PC work either, so lets see what members of the forum say.
Best wishes,

Re: SUN 2021/7/2
Peter, that sounds like the correct path, but we need to know exactly how you do the post processing in Photoshop. Try to follow my instructions in this guide to the letter with your avi and see if you come out with white proms https://solarnutcase.livejournal.com/18572.html

Re: SUN 2021/7/2
That's much better Peter! but I can see the sky is still quite grey. I bet you had a little background haze which can result in this grey fuzz. But at t least the proms are white I would just tone down the shadows and highlights a little. Drop down from 50 a bit. Then use a little contrast to reduce down the grey sky glow a little more. It will be a fine balance between getting the proms and losing them to get the black darker.
What gamma setting did you originally take the avi with? it needs to be at a neutral setting at capture. Also what does the histogram look like?

Re: SUN 2021/7/2
That's great Peter, you have some superb details in this single image. What you want to achieve is an image equal to or slightly improved on the image captured here. So as you can see the sky is black and the proms are there but white. Anything not the same as the original is not data but art (depends on what you are after).
The only thing I would suggest would be to have a jiggle with the tuning when you are watching the live view, try to get as much contrast as you can as it is a little off band to the lower left. When happy, move the Sun around in the field of view, has the contrast increased anywhere? you will find a spot where it is more uniformly illuminated. At the moment the lower left is brighter than the right and also more off band than the right. This is key to getting an even disc. The more on band you are, the more the proms will naturally stand out too when you post process.
Keep going Peter, you are really coming on in leaps and bounds

Re: SUN 2021/7/2
Thanks very much for all your help I really appreciate it, do I carry on using flats to get it all same, will defiantly try to do what you suggest.

Re: SUN 2021/7/2
Peter, you shouldn't need to do a flat. It should be possible for you tweek the tuning and move the Sun around and find the best spot. Try it. If it really is impossible then you may need a flat, although I have never mastered a flat yet for a full disc so do tell Mmmm is that why you are getting a funny sky colour? I found all a flat does is reverse everything on a full disc, it doesn't work.
