2021-7-4, WL granulation and 12835, Barlow 2.2x

Post by H-Alpha »

Hi all,

Today the seeing was worst than 2-3 days ago, but I wanted so much to correct my stupid mistake (forgot to add Continuum and UV/IR cut filters in last session...) and give it a try... And yes! This is my first descent WL granulation with a Barlow! :-)
Hope to make better ones when a seeing below 1 will come back (either in two days or in 1.5 month, after my return).

The SSM data for the seeing during captures today:

The granulation well visible finally! Made at the central part of the sun disk. PLEASE open in new tab.

I LOVE granulation images and these are GREAT!! Clear, sharp, sizeable granulation images along with sharp spicule images and amateur images of the solar corona to me are the pinnacle of amateur solar astronomy with the corona being the holy grail!

Alexandros :bow :bow :bow a superb solar carpet :hamster:

Have a wonderful time at sea and do tell us all about it when you get back. If you have any photos of sea life then please post them in the 'Sunlit Earth' part of the forum :)

Thank you all James, Alfred, Maurits, Alexandra for your kind words!

I also love a lot the WL granulation. Next target in September a nice animation of it... ;-)
I started with it with no success for months with my C8. Hope now that I have a bit more experience, the day of a Hi-Res C8 WL may come!

Thanks so much Alexandra for the wishes. Let's see if our old friends the sperm whales will be there... We know some of them at the personal level (through photo-identification) for 25 years! However, various anthropogenic pressures have made this small population decline the last years... We hope to finally convince the authorities to take the right measures. At least they recognized officially the problem a couple of months ago and made a notice to mariners to try to avoid collisions, but will have zero effect on the conservation problem (large ships cannot detect the whales...). And this was after 7 years we bombard them with scientific data and 'environmental ngo pressure'... As human societies, we respond very much slower than we should to the ecological problems...

We do have fantastic whale, dolphin and other sea-life photos, but didn't know we can upload somewhere here. During the survey it is very difficult, but it might (with low probabilities) be possible, if we are stacked in a port due to bad weather and we also happen to have internet.

I may have a last chance for solar imaging the next two days, if not I will try to send a good bye and wishes, before I leave.

Best wishes,
Alexandros
