July 6 2021 Observations

Post by DeepSolar64 »

Session time is from 14:08 to 14:41 UTC. The skies are clear. Seeing is a bit above average. The temperature is 75F ( 23.9C ).

Coronado SolarMax II 60 DS. 16x, 21.5x and 33x ( Ha )
AR12835 is almost on the limb in the SW. I can see it's spot and plage. I can see the plage of AR12837 in the NW and the plage of AR12839 in the NE. A small bright plage lies NW towards the limb from AR12837 and another tiny one NE from AR12839. There is yet another small plage visible in the SW near the disc center just across the CLM. This makes a total of 6 visible plages!!

I can see 4 filaments in the SW quadrant near and below AR12835. One other filament is found very near the limb in the NE.

I see one prominence. A tall thin one on the NE limb.

The mottles are easily seen today but like the GONG Big Bear image, seem a bit soft.

Orion 70mm Solar Telescope. 25x, 50x and 62.5x ( WL )
AR12835 is almost on the limb in the SW. I still can see it's divided umbra surrounded but it's large penumbra. I can see one other spot close by. AR12837 in the NW shows 3 tiny pores. AR12839 in the NE shows 6 small spots. Two close together tiny pores are seen close together are seen in the SW near disc center. I can see one tiny pore within a patch of faculae in the NW not far off the limb.

The fine solar granulation is visible.

Carpe Diem!

James

Nice report James, AR2837 had just quieted down when you started your session. I was recording a flare on it from 13:13-14:13 UT. Great description of the AR’s.

Cheers

Maurits and Terry, I am glad to help you with a view when you have clouds. You'll probably return the favor to me sometime. :)

rigel123,
That's the second time in the last three days I have set up just minutes late of a flare. Post your results when you can.

James

Thanks, James. It's starting to look a bit quiet again.

Hi James,
It was interesting to read and compare with what I saw yesterday. It's always a shame when the big AR goes away.

Thanks everyone! Today was a cloud-out for me. Not even a small hole presented itself. Tomorrow doesn't look good either. Tropical Storm Elsa is forecast to bring in rain and thunderstorms tomorrow for my area. So I will have to " Let it Go "! :)
