Saturday Sunshine - 10 July 2021

Post by MapleRidge »

Hi everyone...

This past week had little sunshine as a mini 'monsoon' set in offering cloud and close to 5 inches of rain. I was glad to see the sun make an appearance on Saturday and headed to the dome to do some solar imaging.

The first sets of images are the full disks in Ha, WL, and CaK spectrums. First is Ha, made from a composite of separate disk and limb exposures, imaged through the LS80T/LS75FHa/B1800Ha solar scope and an ASI174MM camera:
Full_Ha-07102021.jpg
Full_Ha-07102021.jpg (328.62 KiB) Viewed 484 times
The next images are the WL and CaK full disks as imaged through the Orion EON 130ED using a Lunt Solar Wedge/Baader Continuum filter and a Lunt B1800CaK/Baader K-Line filter set. The ASI1600MM camera was used for these full disk images:

Full_WL.jpg (804.45 KiB) Viewed 484 times
Full_CaK.jpg
Full_CaK.jpg (719.89 KiB) Viewed 484 times
I added a 3x focal extender to the CaK filters and images the active regions with the ASI174MM camera. AR2841 and 2842 were near the eastern limb, and there were two un-named regions in the NW and SW quadrants of the solar disk as well:
AR2841_CaK.jpg
AR2841_CaK.jpg (399.9 KiB) Viewed 484 times
AR2842_CaK.jpg
AR2842_CaK.jpg (897.27 KiB) Viewed 484 times
NE_CaK.jpg
NE_CaK.jpg (413.59 KiB) Viewed 484 times
SE_CaK.jpg
SE_CaK.jpg (331.96 KiB) Viewed 484 times

I setup the Daystar Quantum on the Orion scope with a 4x Powermate to image the active regions in greater detail in the Ha spectrum. AR2841 showed a nice delicate detail and AR2842 shows a lot of promise as it is peeking around the NE limb:
AR2841_Ha.jpg
AR2841_Ha.jpg (300.47 KiB) Viewed 484 times
AR2842_Ha.jpg
AR2842_Ha.jpg (225.89 KiB) Viewed 484 times
There were no numbers assigned to the two regions shown below, though one website still list the one in the NW as AR2839:
NE_Ha.jpg
NE_Ha.jpg (357.38 KiB) Viewed 484 times
SE_Ha.jpg
SE_Ha.jpg (392.35 KiB) Viewed 484 times
The solar limb had numerous proms, and a nice large one in the NE adjacent to AR2842. The prom images are shown below:
NE_Prom.jpg
NE_Prom.jpg (205.61 KiB) Viewed 484 times
SW_Prom.jpg
SW_Prom.jpg (106.65 KiB) Viewed 484 times
SW_Prom-2.jpg
SW_Prom-2.jpg (192.03 KiB) Viewed 484 times
SE_Prom-2.jpg
SE_Prom-2.jpg (358.35 KiB) Viewed 484 times
SE_Prom-1.jpg
SE_Prom-1.jpg (152.67 KiB) Viewed 484 times
This covers the images form Saturday, and now back to cloud on Sunday (but no rain :P ) I hope everyone enjoys this set!

Take care,
Brian

WoW, the Sun shows so much more in CaK and Ha than it does in WL.

Nice set Brian!

Like you, Brian, we went through the remains of tropical storm Elsa. It was brutal ! Glad you were able to put together such a nice collection of images, showing beautiful detail.

Stuart, Maurits, Martin, Terry and Franco...

Thanks for all of your comments and feedback...always appreciated :bow

Franco, we didn't get the remains of Elsa but I think it blocked the systems that produced all the thunderstorms.

Thanks Alexandra :bow

It would have been nice to get half of the rain we've had since July 1st over a few days in late may and mid June when crops needed it most. Feast or famine with no happy medium
