Binoviewer for H-alpha?

Post by Florin Andrei »

I think I can make a bino work after the H-alpha filter. I have a Baader TZ-3 telecentric, which has an enormous backfocus. So there's plenty of room for the bino.

The scope is an ED80 refractor and the filter is a Quark.

My question is - is it a good idea to use a bino for H-alpha? Sometimes the contrast of the surface features is not great when activity is very low; will the bino improve the perception?

Binos are great for HA viewing, even when activity is low they help to see details on the surface, you just want to have a good way to block extraneous light as the image can be dim and you basically have to let your eyes dark adapt to take best advantage of the view. I use this from Teligizmo to aid in viewing: http://www.telegizmos.com/

Andrei, most of the time I use a binoviewer for Ha viewing.

Yes, bino are great. Even for white light observation.
