July 18 2021 Observations. 8x32 quick view.

Post by DeepSolar64 »

Today I was almost clouded out completely. I had no breaks in the overhead cloud deck from home in the morning hours. Later in the early afternoon I had a very brief view using my very portable Lunt 8x32 WL solar binoculars from my daughter's home in Weaverville N.C. Using the SUNoculars I could see the spot groups of AR12842 in the NW and the now numbered AR12845 in the south-central area of the disc. Despite the low magnification I could see that they were more than just a single spot in the groups. I tried for the small spot(s) in AR12844 but they are much to small to see at this meager magnification.

Heavy rain moved in later in the afternoon.

James

Stu,
The next two days don't look good. Thunderstorms and rain are predicted.

At least the Sunoculars are portable for a quick view anywhere and you could see the tiny spots in both regions. They are small so the Sunoculars must be good :hamster:

 Even if through a very basic instrument. Today is cloudy so far. No breaks in the cloud deck.

Good use of the Sunoculars James and hope your weather improves somewhat.

Had Thunderstorms forecast here today, but the Sun was clearly too hot to allow the clouds to form for that and https://www.blitzortung.org/en/live_lightning_maps.php
was watched in case the need to disconnect the radios to prevent further damage.

CLEAR SKIES
