FD July 20 with advice
This morning had a lot of haze in the sky, but it was oke.
I know, the orientation is wrong ...
I find the results much better than yesterday, because I followed Terry's advice.
60mm scope with a Lunt 60mm / 35mm DS.

Hi Maurits,
The photo today is definitely more contrasting and detailed. It's good that we have Terry. He helped me a lot too. It remains to add flat.

Hi Maurits
Lovely disks with lots of detail and superb contrast.
Do you do flats? I find them a real pain for full disk and when I get such a good disk as yours, with a nice background but just a simple problem of two areas not having the same brightness I just use Photoshop to correct this, also sometimes I think flats can make a full disk look quite boring.
I hope you don't mind but I had a little go with your grayscale image to show what I do, as always less is more.
What I do is select one of the areas with the lasso tool and quite a large feather edge, the edge depends on the size of the image you are working on.
I used a feather of 60 on yours.
Then I just used contrast and brightness to level the two areas.
After this I deselected the area and then used the brightness just to bring the whole disk to how I like it.
When you get such a good image as yours I find this the simplest and least invasive way of sorting this out.
I did this very quickly so it is not perfect.
I hope this is helpful and am sure others may have their ways of doing similar.

Re: FD Juli 20 with advice
Hi Maurits and Ivan, I'm not sure if I should even be replying to your successful improvement, but certainly these are excellent captures with the DS.
The colouring is Fab and with just a quarter of a Megabyte of data - the surface detail is so clear..
(Often the simplest method - produces the best results)...
Regards
Terry

WOW thanks a lot Rod for the correction and illustration in brightness.
Yes I use flats in FireCapture.
Indeed a real difference, I saw this too but had no idea how to fix it.

Re: FD Juli 20 with advice
My pleasure, that's what we are here for.
I'm sure someone else will have other ways and hope they share them as well so we can all learn.
Showing nice pictures and fancy equipment is fun but the best part of this site is the help and learning we share.
Cheers Rod

Re: FD Juli 20 with advice
Rod, this is a great tutorial, thanks a lot, I think it will be useful to a lot of people. So easy and fast compared to flat for FD. Thanks again!RodAstro wrote: ↑Tue Jul 20, 2021 10:00 am My pleasure, that's what we are here for.

Re: FD Juli 20 with advice
Indeed Maurits, now with Rod's excellent added advice, no doubt that SolarChat and its' advisors is the way forward.
Can I also suggest, that when adjusting the DS, to go a little either-side of the "sweet-spot" to then feel the adjusting-knob where the centre is for that best overall light-balance over the whole disk. The PC-screen should show this to help, as long as any back-light/reflecting on the screen doesn't interfere. If no overall light-balance, then possibly the SS element of pre-setting - might not be purrrfffect !!
So often the PC/Computer screen(s) are of the reflective-type, whereas mine are not, so that problem is minimised...
Best Wishes
Terry

Re: FD July 20 with advice
In addition to Rod's advice which I also utilize, you can try moving your disk around in your FOV with Gamma cranked up fairly high to accentuate where the brighter area is on the disk and try to get that as central on the disk as possible. Then you can turn Gamma down again or turn it off completely to capture your image. If your sweetspot is similar to mine, putting that bright area in the center of the disk allows for slight limb darkening in a concentric manner so you get a bit more depth to your image that flats often take away.
Nice details on your disk BTW!
