Sunday July 18th Session - Part 2 in Ha
Hi all...
I'm back with part two of the images taken on Sunday, specifically with the modded Orion EON130ED OTA and my mod using Lunt internal DSII etalons designed to DS their LS80T solar scope. This was the first time I had set the scope up as a mod...I had been waiting on an adapter From Moonlite to attach a 2.5" motorized focuser for easier focus in most most configurations. I had a 2.5" to 2" reducer flange that I had a local machine shop modify to allow the etalon to be attached. I will post a piece on the mod in the next few days...working on getting pics pulled together now.
For each AR I will have two photos, one in single stack mode with a 3x focal extender and a second using the 4x Powermate...I did not have sufficient focuser travel in the DS mode to allow the 3x to reach focus, but remember that the Powermate used a lot of out focus and that was the setup used for the final images.
First is a full disk image though the scope at prime focus...this is the closest to getting a full disk in the mods using this setup. Since the DSII optics are designed around a f7 scope, the Orion is the first f7 donor OTA I've used. Earlier mods on the 6", f8 and 4" F10 OTS produced a much more pronounced sweet spot. As it is, I can get most of the image on the ASI174MM on band with only a small amount of extra optical magnification: The first image is a multi frame mosaic of the area around AR2842: The next image is the group associated with AR2841/2843/2845 as a SS...only AR2845 is in this image : The SE limb where AR2844 was rotating into view: There was a small area of activity on the NE limb as well: The next images show some of the filaments on the North and South parts of the disk in the SS mode: Getting near the end of the images now...a few of the prom in the NE limb, in DS mode: That covers the images form Sunday...hope you enjoy them all
I'll post more on the mod in the next day or so depending on work. I've promised to show this again but not had the time and this will be the latest revision to the mod.

A very nice set Brian, I don't think it suits the full disc imaging but the close ups are fabulous, especially the DS limb shots, wow!

Hi, Brian
The higher scale images with your Orion 130 are very impressive, especially the last couple.
Back on June 1, I placed a deposit for a similar refractor to yours from StellarVue (a SVX127D) which may be in my hands in late fall this year or spring next year. Today, I may finally get down to calibrating my Solar Spectrum 0.5Å filter. I've been delayed a bit mainly waiting for a uniform sky and also waiting for an extra counterweight since the filter's temperature controller will be riding piggyback on my Mak180 and C9.25 to avoid clutter on my table.

An excellent set of images.
That DS SE close-up is the best IMHO.

Alexandra, Mark, Maurits, Lou, Rusted, and Terry...
Thanks to each of you for your comments and feedback...always appreciated
Alexandra, I did not expect the mod to give an even full disk...the LS80 still has a place The full disk was posted to show the relative size of the sweet spot.
Lou, good to hear you have a new scope on order. What will be its primary use? Solar or other targets. Good luck calibrating your filter...at least the smoke and haze has cleared off today after the thunder storms yesterday.
I will be doing more imaging to fine tune the setup and hope to have better sky conditions when that happens.
Taker care all,
Brian
