Calcium Sun 21st July

Post by marktownley »

Hi All.

The hot weather continues, and woke to found another sunny if slightly hazy morning. Seeing wasn't quite as good today, and after gathering some data with the 120mm at f20 ditched it all and went back to the 100mm Tal refractor, at f28 with the ZWO290mm camera. This was getting usable data, and surprised me how much sharper at f10 it is than the 127/1200 (respace project coming up when the weather breaks!).

I'll start with the overview full disk, taken at 50mm f20 with the 3.69um pixel FLIR ICX814 chipped camera:

ImageCaK-FD-50mm-20-ICX814 by Mark Townley, on Flickr

First off AR12842 which is getting ever closer to the limb, but still looking nice!

ImageAR12842-CaK-100mm-f28-290mm by Mark Townley, on Flickr

In the hemisphere below it ar12845 which has been decaying for days has pepped up again, with some small flaring, and was the brightest thing on the sun in CaK

Imagear12845-CaK-100mm-f28-290mm by Mark Townley, on Flickr

Next up, currently undesignated (will it be ar12848?) is looking quite tasty...

Imagear12848-CaK-100mm-f28-290mm by Mark Townley, on Flickr

AR12846, our old X flare candidate is looking quite turbulent, even if it appears quiet...

Imagear12846-CaK-100mm-f28-290mm by Mark Townley, on Flickr

And then finally below it on the approaching limb, our new active region ar12847 had some really quite bright proms above it on the limb, Stu got a nice animation in Ha. This is it in CaK, it was this bright live on screen, no stretching or messing with gamma here, this is as is!

Pleased with todays booty! Hoping tomorrows is just as productive, the break in the weather draws ever closer so want to capitalise. Hope the sun is shining where you are and hope you like these shots!

Mark

These high res images are really impressive, Mark.

Some images, IMHO, have some more potential.

Cracking images, Mark. You captured all of the main features very nicely, even that active prom region.

Maybe another opportunity for solar imaging today?

Wow, these are really sharp indeed! Might be the best CaK I've seen!

Fab captures Mark and the contrast in some is "extra" fab.

Thanks for sharing

Thanks Jochen! Just haze here this morning, the sky is very milky with the breakdown in the weather getting ever closer. I may venture out with a scope in a bit but have yesterdays images to process first...
