Well, I am really ticked. I completed this post with all the details and accidentally closed the window deleting all contents! So I am not going to redo it. I will give only a brief summary for today. I tried using history to recover it but to no avail.
Time observed is from 10:50 until noon EDT local time ( US ). Skies are very hazy due to western wildfires but clear of clouds. The temp is 79F.
The SMII 90 showed 8 active region plages to my eyes today. I could see most of the detail shown on the GONG Cerro Tololo images but GONG has MUCH better contrast and today seems a bit soft in the scope. This is the most active regions I have seen since I have been observing Ha!
Continuum ( 540nm Baader filter ) Shows 6 AR spot/pore bearing regions to my eyes. No large spots present in any of them though. Faculae easy on those near the limb. Granulation visible but soft.
So rely on the attached images to get an idea of what I could see today. The images exceed my visual view but at least they will give an idea of what is there.
Sorry for the basic post.
James

Thanks for the report James, it seems hot with the fire in NA. I enjoyed todays views through the DS90, I think it might be my last decent ones for a while. We've all been there before when doing a long post and it closes to no avail. I;m 'optimistic' for something very first thing at dawn tomorrow but we will see. I've had a week of persistent sun, that's good in these parts! I think there is more coming round the disk soon too! It's all good fun

Re: July 22 2021 Observations. 8 visible active region plages.
Hi James, sorry to hear that you also loose some work and time when pressing the wrong buttons and exactly as Mark T., has just said.
The wild-fire capture is quite scary - even to us over the other-side of the Atlantic, as with our latest very-high temps and current lightning-storms (now largely in the Midland and northern England as I speak), could cause some similar problems here, but with a change in our weather starting on or before Saturday, hopefully will dampen-down the risk areas...
For so many AR's and and especially the NE and SE ones currently being very active (even with small spots) - so much can happen over the next 9-days etc., as my attached SDO image clearly shows how much radiation is currently in progress - this evening/z...
Thanks for your efforts (including those in vain)..
Cheers
Terry

Re: July 22 2021 Observations. 8 visible active region plages.
Mark,
I don't think I have ever seen that many fires at once in the U.S. like that. Canada has some of it too I believe. Rain held the haze back from us here in N.C. until this week but it's been really thick here over the last couple of days. The sun is noticeably dimmed and yellow or orange in color. It will add all those ash particulates in the air which will act as nuclei for water to condense around falling to earth as rain over the eastern U.S., north Atlantic and Europe. Hopefully it won't add to Europe's flooding.
I had too many windows open at once on my PC and closed down the wrong one!! Arrrggh....
Good luck on observing on Friday!
Terry,
England is having higher temperatures than we are having here in the N.C. mountains. More like the Piedmont areas of North and South Carolina. The recent upswing in solar activity has been nice. We just need a larger active region. These are numerous, but small.
Goodnight
James

Oh dear James thanks for the brief report anyway Sometimes I have pressed the wrong button but when using the back button on the browser the editor box comes back with post in it. However if you close the whole tab down I'm not sure you can recover

I took the whole browser down! Today is really hazy and the mount to my SMII90 and Celestron 102 is locked up in the back cabinet and my wife has my car and all my keys are on it! It'll be the SMII60 and Orion70 today.
Happy Friday!
