Friday Sun FDs in Ha and Ca II K 23rd July 2021

Post by Carbon60 »

The morning was really hazy and despite my best efforts my images all ended up in the bin as AutoStakkert just couldn't stack the crud.

By lunchtime things had improved somewhat and I had more success imaging and processing in Ca II K and Ha.

First up, Ca II K in Mono and colour showing plage regions effectively in two bands north and south of the solar equator:

Then over to the red end of the spectrum.
Hydrogen Alpha showing activity particularly in the south east with some interesting proms, filaments and bright patches of plage. It will be interesting to see what develops as this region rotates further our way.

Thanks for looking.

Stu.

WoW, Stuart! Nice images. Your CaK images show 9 plages total. 8 can be seen in your Ha images. You back up what I saw today. Visually I could pick up 8 in continuum and 6 in Ha. Your CaK images look to be picking up some polar plages/faculae in the north which I find surprising.

Great set. Gorgeous Ca-K disks, mind you I'm biased as Ca-K is definitely my favourite!
