July 23 2021 Observations. Plages/Faculae everywhere!
Session time is from 15:02 to 16:40 UTC. The skies are partly cloudy and the seeing is above average. Hazy. The temperature is 79F ( 26.1C ). The mount to my SMII90 and Celestron 102 is locked up in the back cabinet and my wife has my car and all my keys are on it! It'll be the SMII60 and Orion70 today
Coronado SolarMax II 60 DS. 16x and 21.5x ( Ha )
I can see 6 plages on the Ha disc today! AR12846 is located in the NE quad and shows some filaments within it and to it's NE and SE. I can also see it's larger spot. AR12848 lies to it's SW at the LCM and isn't hard to see. I can also see another small plage west of it in the NW quadrant. AR12844 is visible in the SW quadrant amid a scattering of filaments. AR12847 and AR12849 are easily seen in the SE quad with AR12849 showing a large dark curved filament!
Observed in double stack I can see nice prominences on the SE limb. Two are really easy, fair sized and bright. One rises up and angles sharply southward! Lesser proms can be faintly seen in the NE and NW. The SW shows two fairly bright easy proms.
The mottles are easily seen covering the solar disc.
Orion 70mm Solar Telescope. 25x, 50x, 62.5x and 100x ( WL )
I could pick up 8 patches of faculae and/or spot regions on the disc today! AR12846 shows 5 spots/pores to my small refractor. Though small, the largest does sport a penumbra. The faculae to this system can be only glimpsed. NE of AR12846 at the NE limb lies a small patch of faculae coming onto the disc. I see no spots/pores within it. AR12848 shows three pores. The SDOHMIc image shows the center larger one to be a close double. I could pick out an elongated shape to it at 100x but could not resolve the two separate individuals. I see no faculae to AR12848. AR12842 is visible practically on the NW limb as a fairly bright patch of faculae. I don't see any spots or pores within it. AR12845 is visible very near the SW limb as a small bright facula. I see no spots or pores within it. AR12844 is seen in the far SSW as a vague faculae without spot or pore. AR12847 in the SE shows a small spot and a pore amidst scattered faculae. NE of it lies AR12849. I can visually see only one pore within it's large easy patch of faculae. SDOHMIc shows a couple of tiny pores there too!
The fine solar granulation easily stands out today.
In total between Ha and WL I can see 9 regions in total!
Have a great weekend everyone!
James

So there are now seven AR's James. Starting to difficult to keep track of so many, but hey, that's something we can get to used to for the future of cycle #25 I guess..
Thanks for the update

Great description, James. It looks like it is getting more and more interesting, but instead of these beautiful and numerous AR clouds we have.

That's the beauty of SolarChat. When one of us is clouded out we have the work of other members to show us what is going on. The Sun always shines on SolarChat! And then we have GONG and the SDO as a bonus!

Absolutely brilliant thanks James! Jaw dropping performance. Totally missed he was playing until less than 24 hours before, last minute grab for tickets, can see the venue from the window at home is that close. Robert Plant is 73 next month, but he really doesn't look it or act it, and his voice is something else!
