July 24 2021 Observations

Post by DeepSolar64 »

Session time is from 15:00 to 17:00 UTC. Mostly cloudy skies. Hazy. The seeing is fair. The temperature is 81F ( 27.2C ).

Coronado SolarMax II 60 DS. 16x, 21.5x and 33x ( Ha )
I can see 6 plage areas on the disc. AR12846 is seen in the NE now nearing the Central Longitudinal Meridian. I see a filament just north of the plage. To the NE of AR very near the limb I see a new disturbed area with a filament. I also see filaments NW and SW of it between it and AR12846. AR12848 is visible as a pale plage almost due west of AR12846. AR12844 in the SW appears as a mere disturbance with a few attending filaments. AR12847 in the SE is easily seen and it's neighbor, AR12849 to the NE is easily seen with a couple of easy filaments. They show depth in the scope and look very similar to their appearance in the GONG El Teide image. A couple of filaments are seen SE of it near the limb.

A few prominences are seen. A low bright one on the NW limb and a couple to the north of it. I also see some small bright ones on the SE limb.

The mottles are visible across the solar disc.

Orion 70mm Solar Telescope. 25x and 50x ( WL )
I can see 6 areas on the WL disc today. AR12846 is seen as a spot group with a triangular shaped spot with multiple umbrae with 4 pores seen nearby. No faculae is visible. A patch of faculae is visible at the NE limb. I can see some remaining faculae of the departing AR12842 near/at the NW limb. AR12844 is a low contrast faculae in the SW quadrant. AR12847 is seen as a single spot in an area of low contrast faculae. AR12849 to it's NE appears as a brighter area of faculae but I see no spots or pores within it.

The fine solar granulation is visible without difficulty.

Between both scopes 7 active areas are visible, however I could not see anything of the departing AR12845 in the SW.

Carpe Cerevisi!

James

Good read of your session James :bow

Complete overcast and now light rain in the late afternoon...maybe a few days before the sun makes an appearance here.

Glad you got a viewing in James, just endless cloud (again!) here, occasional spots of rain.
