Heads Up 26th July

Post by Stardust5858 »

Hi all, the sun finally came out but with high amounts of thin haze. Some nice proms i both HA and CaK, filaments and AR's. Some North polar falculae I think too.

Thanks. :bow

May I ask whether these equally spaced filaments [at left, on your last image] are a regular occurance?
There have been several sets in the eastern hemisphere recently.
If they were terrestrial clouds we would talk about waves formations.
Does the sun exhibit wave formations over such vast distances?

Some fantastic stuff on there today we are lucky to get some clear sky, not what the weather forecasters said a day or so ago.
Thanks Ella

Hi Rusted, I'm no expert by far but there is I think, large solar waves that sweep across the sun associated with the magnetic field being wound up around the sun. I'm not sure about the dynamics of such in association with filaments. Others on here have far more knowledge than I do and I may be completely wrong. Sorry not to be able to give you a definitive answer.

Great to see!! interesting about the polar faculae, they will soon be disappearing as solar max creeps up, enjoy them while you can :bow :hamster:

Thanks Alexandra, yeah, just noticed the polar faculae in the North polar region before I packed up. I tried to see if there were any in the south polar region but didn't see anything.

Thanks Ella for today's excellent captures of the events.

You are lucky - as with others to capture these today, as here cloudy all day except very late, so am hoping to try some Lunar and Saturn imaging if those approaching clouds don't yet cover here. It could be the first light of the new SkyWatcher ESPRIT 80ED scope, which is now mounted as part of the Tri-scope assembly and just needs aligning with the two SolarScopes...

Cheers for now
Terry
