1st Light - SkyWatcher 'ESPRIT' 80ED for White-Light

Post by EGRAY_OBSERVATORY »

Well after waiting 2-months for the delivery of the new SkyWatcher "Esprit" 80ED Apo-Triplet scope (to replace the Orion ED80T-CF with its' snags) and then waiting a further week or more, to align it with the Lunt 60 Ha and Cal-K scope as the Tri-scope Assembly on the SkyWatcher AZ-EQ6 mount, at least early today the sky was clear and although quite windy, was the time for completing the installation.

A further post with some close-up images of the newbie, will happen shortly, as one or two interesting innovations that are making this acquisition superior to the scope it has replaced.

As the alignment was completed quickly, before the clouds really started to interfere, the attached captures show that today, the prominences are the main-feature for imaging. Not a lot else was really visible with the seeing which was a little turbulent...

Further work is in progress to take and produce better images from the Tri-scope Assembly, but limited time today, where other things need doing...

Thanks for looking
Terry

Thank you Alexandra and yes not a lot of room between the two SolarScopes (albeit they're all SolarScopes now).
The Esprite being now a white-tube, should keep the heat away more than the Orion before it (which was a Carbon-fibre tube, thin and black).
Also the front section is very thick aluminium and also front-heavy, which allows for better balancing when the draw-tube and load is extended..

Thanks Maurits, David, Ivan , AndiesH.H. and James - I was surprised to immediately see my own image in such large size - when I had just recently opened SC...

CLEAR SKIES to everyone

Terry

Nice captures Terry and nice to see a picture of the new scope and its place in the updated setup.

Thank you Mark.
As the newbie shows the FD compared to the previous using the same camera, I will now be able to trial various uses of Barlows and from my large selection of filters and polarizers, F-stoppers too, to see what can be achieved with this scope.

The possibility of also seeing what the Ha and CaK BF's can achieve through the larger 80mm scope - will also be trialled.

CLEAR SKIES
Terry

many thank Franco and Peter.
I'm looking for much improvement when the Sun gives more to look and image at than the "1st-light" morning and when the weather improves, which might not be before next Tuesday...

Peter, when are you going to post some Ha images here for us to see ??

CLEAR SKIES
Terry
