July 29 2021 Observations. Visual and imaging. Proms!!
Session time is from 14:50 to 16:47 UTC. The skies are partly cloudy and hazy. The seeing is fair to maybe just below average. The temperature is 84F ( 28.9C ).
Coronado SolarMax II 90 DS. 32x, 44.5x, 64x and 89x ( Ha )
I can see 4 plage areas on the Ha disc today. AR12846 in the NW is seen as hardly more now than a disturbance in the chromosphere. I can see a large disturbance in the NE with several intertwined filaments. The SW shows AR12847 and the larger AR12849 NE of it. AR12849 has some nice filaments associated with it. I also see some to the SE of AR12849 that are nice. I see another small filament in the SE.
Prominences on the limb are nice today. The NE, NW and SE limbs all show nice views of them in the SMII90. Check out the images below that I took of them. My Losmandy AZ8 mount today gave me a lot of issues with the altitude slow motion control knob. It would hardly work at all when turned. I am going to take it to work to have Travis, our maintenance guy to see if he can fix it. He's a good fellow who can about fix anything!
The mottles are easily visible across the solar disc.
Celestron NexStar 102GT w/Altair wedge and 540nm filter. 55x ( WL )
I can pick up four faculae on the solar limb. I can see the faculae to AR12846 in the NW. The faculae to AR12847 in the SW is also visible. I can also see smaller and fainter faculae close to the NE and SE limb of the disc. I see no spots or pores at all on the solar disc today. The granulation is visible.
Carpe Lumen!

James, wow. Great proms. The photographer is definitely starting to wake up in you. Your photos are very good, congratulations. And good luck with mount.

Yes James, all your captures are extremely-good and well show the detail too.
They are even better than the Gong images, so keep up the good imaging (when you can).
Thanks also for the report.

Ivan,
Thanks for the compliments! Travis worked on the mount tonight . He tightened and actually replaced some tiny screws, they had been stripped out a bit he said. And then he put a small amount of lithium grease on the worm gears. I'll find out how well it works tomorrow, weather permitting.
Arne,
Thanks and you are welcome!
Terry,
I have beat GONG a number of times on the prominences but on average GONG beats me on disc detail. I seem to do better on prominences.
Thanks
James

Great report James and nice shots of those proms. That eastern group of proms continues to change!
