Solar Overview 29th July

Post by marktownley »

Hi all!

Thursday mornings weather forecast was clear skies after a couple of days of rain so I was keen to make the most of it, we're back in an unstable airstream off the Atlantic again, and I know when such clear starts to the day happen the cloud will rapidly bubble up at a certain point when the atmosphere reaches that instability tip over. Sure enough that is what happened

I started off in CaK with the 120mm (optimistically!), but that was going nowhere with the seeing, going down to 100mm made no difference as did 80mm, so settled on 60mm.

First off the full disk 60mm f16 with the ICX814 chipped camera.

Closeup views were taken with the 127/1200 stopped down to 60mm to give me f20, with the benefit of minimal glass keeping exposure short as possible. The ZWO290mm camera was used to get near ideal sampling. Sadly all the activity of just over a week ago has died right back, and CaK wise all we have now is plage.

My next plan was Ha, however that instability tipping moment occurred, and in about 10 minutes went from clear to cloudy, as a result I managed a quick full disk, but nothing else. Tuning could have been better, it's an uneven disk, but better than the cloud and rain we have this friday morning.

No chance of anything today, Storm Evert is making it a washout. Fingers crossed for something better over the weekend, but think it will just be brief gaps... Hope you like these.

Mark

Beautiful results with scopes stopped down, Mark. Like you said, not much going on at the present time.

Excellent captures Mark and likewise the turbulent atmosphere yesterday, made it difficult, but yours are very well done.
The Ha filament/FD is my favourite as shows those so well.

Thanks for sharing

Very sharp CAK images Mark, despite the weather conditions.

Well done for getting any kind of shots this week :bow :hamster: a couple of the CaK are a bit dark but then again this work PC has practically had it so it could be the screen

Thanks Alexandra, yeah, those 2 CaK shots are dark I agree, it's me using 'stretch' in ImPPG.

Brilliant session Mark, challenging sky to say the least. I like the CaK especially the close up. Think we're in a quiet spell for a little while. Thanks for sharing.
