30July CAK Images, which is more realistic?

Post by yltansg »

30 July - We have another cloudy day, with gaps for imaging :)

Image

All the spots seen earlier on this week were gone. The object was the plage in the northern hemisphere near the western limb, as seen in this CAK image from SDO:

Image

The imaging window was small and I only managed to get 1 good video, from which I applied my usual post processing and I did another one with the ImPPG settings that Mark generously shared with us recently:

My post-processing:

And using Mark's ImPPG settings:

Please let me know which image is more "realistic".

Alfred

The first image looks the best to me, the second appears to be trying to bring out details that are just out of reach of your setup and is beginning to show the “worms” of over processing.

Number one is much better, number 2 is sharpened at way to high a kernel size / radius for your setup, settings are different for different seeing conditions too. Post up a link to the 16 bit raw file lets see what we can do with it.

Thanks, Mark for your feedback. I have uploaded the raw file at: https://www.dropbox.com/s/2zp7webiwidnw ... 2.tif?dl=0

Look forward to see what you can do with it.

Cheers.

Thanks Alfred! Here's my take on your raw data:

And the settings I used:

And also my shot yesterday of the same region, I was a little heavy handed with the levels stretch:

Alfred, what is the focal length? Descibe the setup, please.

Hi Valery,

I used your ARIES D-ERF at full aperture on a C11 with a pair of Chroma CAK filters fitted in a skybender and an ASI174mm camera. The image scale should be about 0.25 arc sec per pixel.

Thanks, Mark! You have brought out a lot more details in my image. And you have also captured a great image of the plage.

What is your equipment setup like and what is the image scale?

Hi Alfred,

I used my 127/1200 refractor stopped down to 60mm, so 60mm f20, with the ZWO290mm camera, should give me about 0.3 arc sec per pixel.

Mark
