Today marks not only the last day of July but the last day of the summer solar observing season. Tomorrow we will be roughly 6 weeks past the Summer Solstice. Many pagans and neo-druids are familiar with this way of keeping track of time since they use the wheel of the year calendar. It has the year divided into 8 sections all at roughly 6 week intervals. 4 of these are solar. The two solstices and the two equinoxes. All are festive events celebrating nature in some way. I use this calendar for it helps me connect with the natural world around me and the changing of the seasons. Of course the seasons and festivals are reversed for those in the southern hemisphere.

Due to the sky conditions and lack of time, I am heading down to my dad's in Lowndesville SC shortly taking my SMII60 and Orion70 with me. I am observing only in white light today.
Session time is from 14:00 to 14:15 UTC. The sky is almost overcast with high thin clouds with some lower cumulus type clouds. Hazy. The seeing is fair. The temperature is 75F ( 23.9C )
Orion 70mm Solar Telescope. 25x and 50x ( WL )
I can see three faculae on the photosphere today. That of AR12846 in the NW and those of AR12847 and AR12849 in the SW. Both are bright and easily seen. I can also see another patch of faculae in the SE. I see no spots or pores anywhere on the solar disc today. The fine solar granulation can be seen.
Carpe Diem!
James

It’s so blank in WL currently, but there’s something coming around the limb, apparently, James. Enjoy the views from your Dad’s place.

Re: July 31 2021 Observations. WL only.
Thanks James and have a good safe trip.
You say the end of Summer with the end of July, where I wasn't even aware that our July at least was in Summer, with all our rain, winds and of course clouds too. (In fact our April-"Showers" failed to materialise and was quite a nice month), so await with caution to see if August brings something better for us in the U.K. at least...

Thanks, James for the report. All the spots are indeed gone. Hopefully we will see some active regions next week.
