August 1 2021 Observations.

Post by DeepSolar64 »

Session time is from 13:30 to 14:00 UTC. The temperature is 78F ( 25.5C ). The skies are mostly clear. The seeing is below average to poor. Breezy. The observing site is my dad's property just outside of Lowndesville S.C.

Coronado SolarMax II 60 DS. 16x and 21.5x ( Ha )
I can see 4 plages on the solar disc this morning. The plage complex of AR12847-12849 are visible in the SW nearing the limb. to the east of AR12849 lies a new bright plage. Between them lies a long dark filament. To the south of the new plage I see two dark spotlike filaments and to it's NE I see a couple more. I see another un-numbered plage in the NW quadrant. I can see a single filament south of it. Despite the not-so-good seeing I can see a tiny bright plage well SE of the former un-numbered plage in the NW.

I can see only one prominence group. It's on the NW limb.

The mottles are seen without difficultly but are softened by the seeing a bit.

Orion 70mm Solar Telescope. 25x and 50x ( WL )
I can see only a couple of faculae on the solar disc today. That of AR12846 at/on the NW limb and the combined complex of AR12847-12849 on the SW limb. I see no spots or pores on the disc.

I was surprised when I got home and I saw the images taken by Rainer and Pedro Re' showed pores in two of the un-numbered regions. Going back to the SDO reference image I used this morning I see them there but they are very tiny. Seeing probably obliterated them to my sight. I remember the granulation not being apparent at all.

It's late for me. Goodnight folks. I hope your weekend was a good one. Mine was!

James
