A Tour Round The Sun 3rd August
Hi Everyone.
Tuesday dawned with blue skies, and with activity looking to build again I decided to setup early and make the most of things before the inevitable cloud filled the sky. It was not a day for big guns, with Meteoblue telling me seeing was going to be in the range of just below 2". Knowing we are in an unsettled regime I suspected this would be right, and indeed it was, so settled on 60mm f20 (127/1200 stopped down to 60mm) for CaK, and the Ha with the Double stacked SM90 running about f16. The camera used for close ups was the ZWO290mm.
First off though full disks, and the CaK 60mm f16 with the ICX814 chipped Flir camera.

Then, Ha, with the 50mm lunt etalon on the 60mm f6 scope, double stacked with the Quark, again ICX814 chipped camera with a 0.5x reducer.

In a previous post Minh asked about how much vignetting there is with this setup, and the following shot gives an idea where this starts in the fov.

I photoshopped a circle on which shows the approximate region within it where is fine to image.

Anyways, back to the features and a whizz around... First off a bright patch that has appeared on the approaching limb, doesn't seem to be much happening with it at the moment, maybe it will grow?

There was a nice flame prom visible a bit further north than this...

On the departing limb there is some plage in the northern hemisphere with a couple of small proms...
Norther-Activity-Ha-DS-90mm-f16-290mm by Mark Townley, on Flickr
Then moving onto the southern departing quadrant AR12850 which has been steadily developing over the last 24 hours...

I like this complementary setup of 60mm f20 CaK and 90mm f16 DS Ha, gives a nice mid scale to image in when we're in unsteady air, which is most of the time here in the UK. Both wavelengths come out at roughly the same image size.
Hoping I can image again tomorrow morning, looks like it will be clear very first thing then cloud over after about 10am. Meteoblue saying seeing of 1.7" tomorrow, so maybe a bit of an improvement!
Hope you like and hope is sunny where you are!
Mark

Hi Mark,
Great set of FD's and close-ups. The size of the non-vignetted field is quite decent.

Re: A Tour Round The Sun 3rd August
Thanks Mark, for the FOV test. Excellent shots btw. Figure I'd need a 2 inches reducer since I am using a much larger sensor. (M4/3)marktownley wrote: ↑Tue Aug 03, 2021 2:18 pm Hi Everyone.

Thanks Mark for sharing your excellent captures.
Only Sunny late this afternoon and could not get to the observatory then, but possibly some night imaging.

Looks like we were out imaging the same features in Ha and CaK at about the same time, Mark.

Re: A Tour Round The Sun 3rd August
Hi
The detail of the prom group in CAK was similar to what I could see in the 90mm and 4.2x Chromo, perhaps the 4 larger spots for me.
Sunny morning spent messing about.
A SW/Celestron 100mm F5 stopped down to 50mm did well with the 3x Revelation and Prom Quark. Actually 3x.
Cheers. Andrew.

Thanks everyone for the kind comments. 'Flip Y' simply flips the image vertically prior to being recorded, just so I get the correct final orientation.
