Ha with 300mm Cassegrain in St Véran
Ha with 300mm Cassegrain in St Véran
Hello all, long time no see !
My new company has kept me very busy, and my new telescope was pretty late so all the solar stuff was on stand by.
Now I have received my new toy, it is a newton Cassegrain f/3.6-16 300mm from Skyvision with a zero dur primary.
It's very very good as expected from Michel Bonnin, and very smooth.
I wanted for a long time to test sub aperture ERF, one in front of the secondary taking most of the load, the other replacing the primary baffle to remove unwanted reflection of the main rejection.
I had a set of ERF coated for CaK and Ha, they are basically 80mm ERF made from fused silica.
That looks like this :

http://www.astrosurf.com/uploads/monthl ... 832f7.jpeg
http://www.astrosurf.com/uploads/monthl ... 545b4.jpeg
http://www.astrosurf.com/uploads/monthl ... 817ff.jpeg
After testing in St Véran, it seems that the CaK version has an issue. Maybe a very small temp difference that just kills details like this, to be compared with Christian's images, Christian was standing 1,5m from me at that moment :
http://www.astrosurf.com/uploads/monthl ... 387ec5.png
But Ha do works. The coating is better for this one.
I used a PST etalon (the one Christian tested, the good one at less than 0,4A) Behind a 15mm blocker and a x2 power mate.
The Basler 1920 gave 0,12"/pixel, so remember that the features in the images below are pretty small !

http://www.astrosurf.com/uploads/monthl ... b35c0e.png

I quite happy with the results, and that could be extended to large apertures. 400mm seems pretty attainable.

Not knowing what size all your images are Frédéric, it appears that unless they are JPEG's of 2-Mbytes (or less) they have not attached to your post.
Please try again as mentioned here by checking the format and sizes.
Thanks

Thanks Terry !
Actually they are PNG, but hosted on Astrosurf. And it looks like the soft they use doesn't support links as images...

Thanks Frédéric and they are all well-shown on here too.
The Astrosurf image of the scope certainly are crystal-sharp when zoomed-in on my screen.
Thanks and for the images.
Cheers

Re: Ha with 300mm Cassegrain in St Véran
WOW!!!! I think I would die and go to heaven with a CaK image like that through my C11 not perfect but good enough for me
Terrific set of images and I only wish I was there at St Veran
Terry, Astrosurf won't pay for a security certificate to be https, so the links are not supported by this forum for linking. If you click on the written link and open in a separate tab it works fine. Thanks Frédéric for uploading the JPEGS

Good to see you here Fred and great images. I wonder if there is a bit of 'echo' of light between the 2 mirrored surfaces? were they tilted relative to each other?
