August 18 2021 Observations. NE FilaProm!

Post by DeepSolar64 »

Session time is from 15:30 to 16:36 UTC. Intermittent. Substantial cloudiness lingering from T.S. Fred. Below average seeing. Temperature is 77F ( 25C ).

Coronado SolarMax II 60 DS. 16x and 25x ( Ha )
I can see three areas of activity on the solar disc. The combined area of AR12857 and AR12853 is nearing the NW limb. I can see three plage patches there and two filaments. The only other easy area is near the center ( Just NE of it ) of the disc. It's just a light colored patch to the scope. To the west between it and AR12857 I can make out the disturbance of AR12855. There is a couple of more small disturbances shown on the GONG Cerro Tololo reference image but I cannot make them out.

A number of filaments are seen on the disc. Three in the NW, two associated with AR12853 and a couple in the SW. The SE has a couple of small ones. The big NE prom is now moving onto the disc and is visible as a nice filaprom which is very easy to see. The prominence portion of it has shrank in size but is still visible. A fainter hedgerow touches it to the north and another prom is to it's south. The SE shows three bright prominences with the northernmost leaning north. South of these lies a fainter prom. The SW shows a small bright prominence and a larger fairly faint tall one. Even in double stack I can see a long dark gap at the base of the tall prominence . I see no prominences in the NW.

Orion 70mm Solar Telescope. 25x and 50x ( WL )
I can see three small spots in an un-numbered system just NE of the disc's center. To the west near the NW limb I see the faculae associated with AR12857 and AR12853. I see no spots or pores in these. However, just to their south in the immediate vicinity I see another faint patch of faculae. SDO imagery shows a tiny pore here. I cannot make it out in the 70mm scope. I also see faculae near the NE limb and another patch near the SE limb. No spots in either of these.

The granulation is hard to make out today.

Nice to hear about all the prominences etc the filaprom in the NE would be spectacular if it lifted off. The tall one in the SW sounds grand too :hamster:

Today the big NE filament was dark, large and easy to see. I'll post shortly.
