August 15th Session

Post by MapleRidge »

Good day everyone....

This past Sunday (Aug 15th) offered me more time to observe and image and I worked on testing out several options for the cameras/barlows I have in order to try to narrow down a 'best' combo. This produced a lot of SER files to process and evaluate, which slowed the image processing efforts. I think the ideal combination will vary with the seeing (as always), LOL.

Due to the delay posting, I have picked a few examples of the day to post before they get too much older ;) The first is a full disk Ha imaged through the LS80T/LS75FHa/B1800Ha solar scope using the ASI1600MM camera with a 2x barlow. There were 6 active regions on the disk, but the most prominent were AR's 2853, 2857, 2855 which spanned the mid disk and the big prom on the NE limb was still a magnificent sight:

Switching to the modded Orion 130mm ED fitted with the modded pair of Lunt DSII modules and the B1800Ha blocker, the first camera I imaged with was the ASI1600MM at prime focus. Seeing was decent early in the morning and the image below covert the three AR's on the mid disk:

I also imaged the string of filaments found along the southern disk:

The big prom was a bit more challenging as the longer exposures were still impacted by the seeing, but here are a positive and inverted version of the big structure from the best image I got:

NE Prom_1600-inv.jpg

As the morning went on I had taken some images with the ASI174MM and a 1.3x barlow and found that AR2857 had increased in activity showing much more structure in this round of images (approximately 45 mins later):
AR2853-2857-2855-Ha_13x174.jpg
AR2853-2857-2855-Ha_13x174.jpg (544.89 KiB) Viewed 354 times
That's all I will post, as most is a duplicate of the same regions but with different camera/barlow configurations, and there was far less change in the other regions.

Questions and comments are always welcome.

Take care,
Brian

A really great set of images, Brian. The large prom was a beauty.

Brian:
A very good session, specially when we have the time to test different setups and modifications.
We never finish testing what we would like as a final result, but that keeps us working all the time when possible. ;)
Best regards my friend.
Eric.
