For DeepSolar64 eyes only
Hi
Had an unexpected set of clear spells early on over the houses.
RuMak180 UV-IR PST KG3 25A Omega 1.5A Hoya CIR-PL 7nm 25mm Clave'
10.21 BST
Sunny patches clear light wind
Gong O'Clock
10.30 Could see the 3 proms and the streamer reaching down to the next feature.I could see the darker arc filament below.
9.30 Little stubby prom, thin little prom, little triangle leaning down, small thin prom leaning down. I could see a wish-bone filament above with the darker arc filament above pointing at it.
4.30 The triangularish prom with a high centre and slightly hollow. Above I could ust make out a faint tuning fork prom.
4.00 A faint prom with thin bottom and squarish top.
1.30 A small stubby prom with a slightly taller one leaning down towards it.
I could see the bright spot with a dark bar across it.
A friend came round who had not seen proms before.
I have found my 37mm Hoya CIR-PL fits in the front of the T2 Baader diagonal with a T2 extension screwed on.
I have moved the Omega 1.5A after the T2 diagonal so the CIR-PL is between it and the etalon to try next time.
Cheers. Andrew.

Re: For DeepSolar64 eyes only
Andrew,
Visually you are the prominence master! I think you see more of them and more in them than I usually do.
Glad to see your outstanding visual posts back! We have far more imagers who post their work here than we do visual guys/gals. We indeed have something to offer!
Thanks and keep em' coming.
James

Thanks Andy, I too have been missing your vivid imagination at describing prom shapes glad you had a friend over to see them too anyway, how come you saw the Sun? it seems to be a mystery as to where it resides here in Cheshire

RuMak
Clouds with breaks. Light wind. 12.35BST
Gong O'Clock
11.00 Two jagged proms longer one leaning down and shorter one leaning up towards it.
9.30 A trio of three curved down Tiger lines getting bigger towards the top. Jiggly line from the top one going down towards a spiky hollow prom.
Below a dark spot with a small one above it. Bright U shped feature above and bright triangle toward the limb with pointy top and wings. Looks a bit like a hollow.
8.00 Two small spikes.
7.00 A flare prom with a horizontal spike from the top with bright spot at the end. A gap. And then a double spike prom.
4.30 A Sphinx. A small dark cleft at the lower end like an upside down tail. A dark cleft behind the head with a little dark spot behind it. Some grey areas at the bottom smal, small and longer from the head.
1.00 A faint spike with bright blob near the top.
12.30 Faint prom complex. Small seperated blob. Small hollow triangle. A fuzzy trident prom. a low small fuzzy seperated hedge.
Cheers. Andrew.

Re: For DeepSolar64 eyes only
Thanks for your latest report Andrew! I will reference it against the GONG image.
So far I am under clouds today.
James
P.S. The proms have changed a bit since your observations but the sphinx prom at the 4:30 position has kept it's form.

Re: For DeepSolar64 eyes only
I bet that's a really nice scope. You usually seem to do single stack concentrating on prominences it seems. A 180mm scope in good seeing will far outperform anything I have. You should get outstanding views of the limb spicule layer.

Re: For DeepSolar64 eyes only
Hi
The Rumak is the only commercial design with a flat field and no colour. Mine is a Santel and should be 1/6th wave. It does not seem to like barlows and the Quarks though. I must borrow RosAstros Asto-Physics reducer to get it to F7.
The 90mm and Quark Prominence seem to show the spicules better.
I should use the Quark Chromosphere more and lug the 127mm Triplet out, but its not well alligned it seems.
I observe on the edge of a quarry with no wall at the moment looking over back gardens and then two fields. For a copule of hours around mid-day.
RodAstro has made me two 10mm off-axis adapters so I can try picking out the best bits of the Quark Prominence for starting imaging. And given me his old CCD to use.
Cheers. Andrew.

Re: For DeepSolar64 eyes only
Hi
Sunny spells but often in the wrong place.
I have been playing with a slightly changed setup on the Mak180 after shortening things to use on the F7.5 triplet.
Today I screwed on of my stripped out cheap eyepieces which form 20mm baffles on to the back of a BL 48mm to 28.5mm plates with a holder in front with the collimating lens in, an old barlow nosepiece. That may have removed a close pesky reflection which I did not notice after. Then its a 2" nosepiece to the fromt of the PST etalon for a couple of inches. RodAstro is keen on old aeriel cameras as a big box to loose stray light in.
After the PST is the re-focus lens in a plastic Celestron/Skywatcher moon filter on the front of another BL 48mm to 28.5mm plate. These plates are thick enough to screw things in on either side at the same time. On the back is a Beloptic KG3, Red 25A for PST blue-green leakage and another 20mm baffle. This plate screws onto the back of a 48mm to T2 nosepiece.
Out of my box of bits including rubber rings found out walking I found one which fits in the back of the 48mm nosepiece and one which goes round the 37mm Hoya CIR-PL to hold it central. With some bits of flock on the back of the 20mm filter the CIR-PL is a slightly loose fit at the back.
On the back of the 48mm to T2 thread nosepiece is a BL T2 to 28.5 mm T2 pass through plate, shame they do not do ones in 48mm. Astro Rod turned down another T2 pass through plate to hold a Omega 1.5A in another plastic moon filter with a 20mm stop in front. And added tilt screws onto the first pass through. RodAstro turned out a T2 extender so the tiler mechanism would fit in. Another T2 pass through with a 20mm baffle in it. Some T2 extenders to a Baader T2 diagonal. Then a 20mm baffle as the retaining ring on a 7nm, why are manufacturers tight on allowing stacking of filters? on the Clave' 25mm.
I still have one dimmish off axis reflection probably off the Omega 1.5A against the Cir-PL and a out of focus red patch at the side of the field which I assume is a reflection off my eye on the back of the 1.5A. How can I baffle my eye? A piz nez like Patrick Moore?

Hi
Today with the RuMak.
10am BST
Gong O'Clock
10.30 Fuzzy straightish prom leaning down slightly with blob over the top.
8.00 Little pyramid prom.
7.00 little stub
1.30 V prom, upper brighter with low side extension and little upward pointing spike above. From the top of the bottom side a streamer going off with a fuzzy start.
4.30 Small hollow prom fuzzy top
11.00 BST
10.30 Backwards question mark. Below a little way small spike leaning towards it.
9.30 Still see the spot group. Spot and a small one at the ends of a bright ellipse. Arch filament over the little spot. Two bright curved areas to the inside.
7.30 Above could see a long wiggly filament. And a couple of short filaments either side pointing away from the limb.
1.30 Vertical spike with hollow bubble at the top fuzzy streamer going off with little stub under end. On the other side a shorter spike leaning away with a little jet beside it.
4.30 Hollow fuzzy prom with the top side brighter.
Cheers. Andrew.
