Session time is from 14:00 to 16:30 UTC. The skies are partly cloudy with seeing a bit below average. The temperature at 16:00 UT is 79F ( 26.1C )
Coronado SolarMax II 90 DS. 32x, 44.5x and 64x ( Ha )
For me the most exciting thing on the disc is the large filament in the northeast. The Coronado 90 shows a lot of detail in it. I see it very much as the attached GONG Big Bear Ha image shows it, having criss-crossed darker areas surrounded by a fainter haze. It still strongly hints at it's glory as a prominence. I can see three other filaments in the NE quadrant with a small dark one associated with a new active region on the limb. The south and southeast also show filaments including one thin one well in from the limb in the SE. The far south shows one near the limb. I can also see a couple of filaments in the west and northwest.
I do see a few interesting prominences. One on the NW limb is a shape changer changing it's form considerably in the 2+ hours that I observed today. It's bright and very easily seen. The SW limb shows a prom with two voids. To me it resembled the letter M more than what the GONG BB image shows it to be. SE proms are small and low to the disc and I can see two thin southward leaning proms on the NE limb with " smoke " trailing southward.
I can see only two active regions on the Ha disc. A new one almost on the NE limb. It has a dark filament associated with it. AR12858 is seen in the west as a brighter area in the chromosphere.
The mottles are easily seen across the disc and I can the the spicule layer on the limb.
Celestron NexStar 102GT w/Altair wedge and 540nm filter. 55x ( WL )
I can only see two areas of activity on the photosphere. A new active area in the NE shows 2 spots. The southernmost of these sports a penumbra though it takes a close look to see. It's bright faculae is easily seen. I can also see a scattered patch of faculae in the SE. I see no spots or pores within that one.
The SDO HMI continuum imagery shows a small number of pores associated with AR12858. I never could see them or any evidence of AR12858 in white light.
I could see the very fine solar granulation without difficulty.
Have a good weekend. May clear skies find you all.
James

You are welcome, Terry. I do hope for some more activity, especially in white light.
