Session time is from 16:00 until 17:00 UTC. The skies are mostly cloudy. The seeing is below average. The temperature is 77F ( 25C )
Coronado SolarMax II 60 DS. 16x and 25x ( Ha )
The most obvious object on the disc is the newly numbered AR12859 near the NE limb. I can see a filament in it's northern extremities. Elsewhere on the disc I can only see one other active region and that is AR12858 in the NW.
The Great Filament in the NE has faded and became very tenuous in the last 24 hours. I had a hard time at first even finding it! I was really hoping this one would hold together and make it to the NW limb for another good prominence display. It doesn't look good at the moment. I see other filaments in the NW and scattered about in the south and SE.
Widely scattered prominences are seen on the eastern limb and the " Sphinx Prom " observed by Andrew still holds it's form on the SW limb.
The mottles are seen without difficulty o'er the solar disc, as usual.
Orion 70mm Solar Telescope. 25x and 50x ( WL )
The new AR12859 is seen easily near the NE limb. Two spots are clearly seen with both of them sporting a penumbra around a darker umbra. The southernmost one is larger and therefore details are more easily seen. Between the two spots is an elongated spot. Probably a line of unresolved pores. A bright facula is seen from the spots going eastward towards the limb but not making it that far. I can see more faculae in the SE but I see no spots or pores associated with them. Though I looked for it I cannot see anything of AR12858 in the NW.
Orion 70mm Solar Telescope 50x ( WL )
Second observation in better seeing. 80F ( 26.6C ) Partly cloudy. 22:00 UT.
The spots of AR12859 look similar as before but I can see an individual pore in that line between the two main structured spots. I can also see a pore to the SE of the largest spot.
The SE faculae look the same as before but I was able to find the faculae to AR12858 in the NW. I thought I could with difficulty see a single pore within it but that was not supported by the SDOHMIc 4K imagery taken near that time. My eye and brain was probably simply at error since images rarely lie. It's always suggestive when looking for something at the edge of visibility.
Carpe Noctem.

Thanks James, sorry to hear the big filament is diffusing away, I had hoped that maybe it would last long enough for the Sun to come out here and I could see it.

James, thanks for the report, BTW I had a chance to get a couple of shots before it rained.
Best regards,
