SODIUM QUARK - update now of processed material 26-8-2021
Eventually after catching-up on some sleep and other necessary chores like cutting the grass before the current rain-showers, I have spent a few-hours going through the 21-GBytes of data recorded the previous day, much of it relating the the First-Light of the DayStar Sodium D-Line Quark.
Bearing in mind that the seeing was very-bad with the turbulent-Jet Stream being overhead at the time, clearly whilst using the TelVue 2.5X PowerMate at first, the AR2859 was wobbling around all over the place, so inevitably even stacking was not really much better (if any), than simply taking single-frames at around 3mS for the Sodium captures.
As time was very short before the weather-satellite showed clouds coming from the N.E./North Sea region, other Barlow's were not trialled as well as any Focal Reducers and also no-time was available for tuning the Quark away from the basic/mid setting (as advised by DayStar). Equally no-use of EP's was available either
So expectedly, these images are likely no-where near what can be achieved with the newbie and also the newbie scope either, but its' a start
Comments on this post, are of course very welcome, just bearing in mind what I've said above, but will certainly be appreciated

Terry,
You are one of only a few here that has 4 light capability. WL, Ha, Ca II K and Na D. That's awesome!
Seeing is often a hindrance for me too. Still, your images show all of the basic details. The light bridge jutting into the spot of AR12859 shows up well in the sodium image.
I LOVE the wooden Berlebach tripod!!

Re: SODIUM QUARK - update now of processed material 26-8-2021
Thank you so much James and yes 4-lights and that number might still yet grow further... !! Yes I like that light-bridge capture for that detail...
Hopefully in a few days (or less) the weather will improve here somewhat.
Thanks Maurits and thanks to Mark T., for providing the Quark, which may well be providing much better images - soon.
Thanks Alexandra and I've said it before, that being retired for me has made me even busier, not only with astro subjects, but at least keeps me as fit as possible. Still waiting for a Covid-clearance to get the Cataract replacement done, but luckily not obviously getting worse for now.
CLEAR SKIES for everybody - please ??

Promising start Terry, you're already getting more use out of it than I was
Use 2x2 binning on your camera when imaging with the Na Quark, this will definitely help you with a better sampling rate.

Re: SODIUM QUARK - update now of processed material 26-8-2021
Thanks you James and Magnesium is a possibility, but will get used to the newbie first..
Many thanks Mark and I'm about to go out and have a "2nd Sodium light" as it's looking possible this morning and certainly will try the 2x2 binning, so thanks for that suggestion..
Hope you have a good day on the water...
Regards
Terry

Thanks Terry. I’m particularly interested in how you go on with the Sodium quark. I was tempted by Mark’s myself but think my email must’ve gone to junk. I can enjoy it through your eyes just the same! Your images are wonderful!EGRAY_OBSERVATORY wrote: ↑Thu Aug 26, 2021 2:50 pm Thanks to Chris/Rusted, Alan/AJamesB, and nic/nicspenceryork, for looking.

Re: SODIUM QUARK - update now of processed material 26-8-2021
It is always best to send Private messages through the forum because even if the email doesn't get through the little red message displays at the top the next time they log in, so they will see it. Also write a note on the post to tell them that you have sent one. Sending emails from this forum seems a little sketchy, I think most of the time they are rejected by the recipients server.

Re: SODIUM QUARK - update now of processed material 26-8-2021
Thanks you so much Nic and Alexandra for your interest and important comment.
Yes of course Nic, I will keep you appraised as to how I'm getting on with the newbie-gear here. In fact have just arrived back from the observatory (which is only 100-feet away, but does seem like a home from home/or even a holiday too)...
You will usually find the techie stuff within the pics, or the post even. Today I was just about to try EP's through the Sodium Quark but too may clouds stopped that part, but have captured images using Mark T's advice and also different Barlow's, but again cut-short by those white-fluffy things floating above. Today's image will appear shortly..
Indeed Alexandra that is correct and my last PM was advised to the recipient that there was one for him, as he did the same and you probably realise I am always on here at least twice a day.. Also of course the ability to email is available and can be locked-out - if desired...
Thanks again
Regards
