27-8-2021 SODIUM, Ha & Cal-K of AR2859,60,61,62 !!

From a quiet Sun to four AR's including spots is (hopefully) what we can be accustomed to - over the next ten years.. (Well not the "quiet" bit at least)..

Anyhow, in between about 60% slowly moving clouds, the seeing was better than Monday, so spent over two hours trying so different Barlow's and a focal reducer, the latter actually showing most of the Sun's disk with the Sodium Quark, which is something I prefer to see for an overall picture of what can be seen on the whole disk.

But the Quark without any FR's or Barlows, already gives a fairly close-up view of the disk with the SW 'Esprit' 80ED.

A snag I discovered afterward the session, was that the Quark images had been downloaded in RAW-8 files and not in the correct MONO files, which requires a considerable amount of processing trying to get them sorted to greyscale/mono for later processing. I know it can be done, but best and should have been downloaded from the camera as a Mono :!:
I will probably try one of my spare mono-cameras to see if they are good enough for the Sodium purpose, or get the mono-version/ASI-120MM or better camera available.

Today's offerings with less than good Sodium captures are included.

Thanks for looking
Terry

Thank you James and Marios & nicspenceryork, Ivan.

Yes the weather forecast is looking better for the next few days, so hopefully will get to grips with improvements including Marks' suggestion (which I started today, but more work there) and your suggestion James, of trying EP viewing too, which was about to occur today, but not with clouds in the way again.

Be good to actually have a full-day of blue-sky, so I'm not pushed for time, but the patience-angle and more time, will hopefully produce a full-set of 4-lines of light.. I am beginning to believe that the the Sodium Quark produces better captures than WL. Certainly from some previous images, the "Porridge" and Umbra etc., can show-up better than using the HW through the same scope. But I also intend to trial various of my numerous filters to see what they can do for WL improvements.
I also need the suitable time to try adjusting the Quark to confirm what that can do...

CLEAR SKIES
Terry
