August 29th - Between Storms

Post by MapleRidge »

Hi all...

I was not expecting to be able to image today as we had cloud and rain through the morning, but was surprised to see it clear off after lunch. We had thunderstorms brewing all around up as I watched the radar and satellite images but it looked good for maybe an hour. That was optimistic in hindsight

It all started off good with the full disk images to make the composite below. Imaged with the LS80T/LS75FHa/B1800Ha and the ASI1600MM + 1.6x barlow:

I was getting the modded DS system setup and noticed that some cirrus cloud in advance of the storms was startling to drift across the sun. I tried to grab some images during the thinner cloud passes, and was glad to get the main AR's. Imaged with the Orion EON 130ED + pair of Lunt DSII modules, B1800Ha and the ASI290MM camera + 1.6x barlow.

First is the star of the show AR2860 along with several filaments:

Thicker clouds started to interfere more in this set of images, so the mosaic is not a even. Although the north seemed to be lower in activity there were several disturbances mixed in with AR's 2859 and 2861...maybe more activity to come :

I wanted to try AR2860 in greater detail, but I could hear thunder getting closer and called it a day. I closed up the observatory and the rain set in within 10 mins. I can't complain as it ends the very dry month of August and hope to see the crops finish off to better potential than it was looking like a few days ago.

The week ahead is be be relatively clear based on the current forecast and I start a week of holidays Monday...what to do, what to do ;)

Brian,
I love the rich orange color you have used for the colored images. The active regions really pop in a hot yellow color too. Very aesthetic. Nice!!

Another excellent set of images Brian with both B&W and colour being perfect and sharp.

Lucky with those captures - whereas here, awful continuous weather with clouds as being held in a high-pressure region with the weather just circulating overhead here and looks like for the most of this coming week too... Usually high-pressure should be good, but not the way this one is positioned with the out-lying lows..

Cheers
Terry

Great images, Brian. Glad you managed to get some Sun time between the bad weather.

Good session got beautiful images in spite of weather.
Looks like we all are having weather problems to deal with.
Best regards my friend.

Many thanks for your comments Eric...always appreciated :bow

Weather makes for difficult times with our hobby, but in the larger context we aren't dealing with hurricanes and wild fires, so I consider myself lucky!!

Take care,
Brian
