28th August 2021

Post by Montana »

A beautiful sunny Saturday morning so I worked really hard to get all the programs on the computer I needed, and prepared the C11 and Solarspectrum for a view. However, I forgot all about the colour management chuck and soon realised when I set up Firecapture I could only see the Sun in about 5 shades of grey. This made focus really difficult but there was nothing I could do about it. I remember last year we fiddled for months to get the 4K screen to display correctly and I have absolutely no idea what we did. That was quite depressing. Seeing was terrible so my images are not half as good as Stuart's. We had a look at the Dell forum and it seems there are nearly 600 complaints about the Dell bios update, so we are not alone. That is just the folks who have complained on their site, there must be thousands like us and it must have cost Dell a fortune. Thank heavens for warranty!

I tried my best but they aren't very good. I was also plagued with terrible neck pain. It has been slowly getting worse over the last 4 weeks and Saturday I was at the point of screaming. I kept having to take breaks inside on the floor during capture as I couldn't take it any longer. What rotten luck I have been having recently, it is like the sun god doesn't want me to view :(

Anyway, I tried my best, and I have only had the courage to sit at the PC today to process :(

Sorry to hear of your pains Alexandra, but you have succeeded in producing some really nice images and the animation too..

AR2860 is certainly showing so much movement with now as many as 20-spots and the flares. A probable M-Class flare/CME is likely and could well affect Earth...

Thanks for sharing

This really is very poor timing to "pull a sicky" and break your computer. ;)

Despite everything, you seem to have done fair justice to AR2860. :bow
Some lovely, delicate detail. Your excellent animation shows just how active this region is proving.
Now stop messing about and get better soon. We need all the imagers we can get. :D

Alexandra. these are good photos. Some are a little blurry, but the third picture is well done and reveals all the beauty of this AR.
As a person suffering from osteochondrosis of the neck, I sympathize with you and perfectly understand when, in moments of exacerbation, it is not even possible to turn around so as not to cry out in pain.

These actually turned out quite well Alexandra. Don't be so hard on yourself. I love the animation!

Sorry about the neck pain. Mine are my teeth and gums. I have a lot of dental work coming. I dread it.

Despite the weather conditions, the images have a great potential on details, I like it anyway Alexandra.

Sorry about your pain. Get better!

As for the seeing. It may be a poor, but as I see it is not a totally hopeless!

Your image #3 looks very promising. Some signs of small delicate details are here.
Can't tell you exactly how to process it somewhat better, but I have a strong feeling: it can be better with more details.

Try the following:

1. Try less images in the stack.
2. Downsize the stacked image to about 67%
3. Try to process not only with a very small cernel of the sharpening filter, use also somewhat larger cernel size.
4. Use less denoise tool.

Even if the seeing doesn't permit, its still fun to give it a go! You were still able to get some good detail in there, and the animation looks great, especially for the scale. Well done!

And I hope both the computer woes and the neck woes both go away as quickly as possible:)

Still lots of nice detail in these images, Alexandra, especially the third one, as Valery says.
Valery has cracked the code for processing images of this type, whereas we are still on the learning curve, so don't beat yourself up about it. They are especially good considering the agony you're going through. I really feel for you. On top of this, having a laptop that isn't running at tip-top performance really is off putting as you spend more time fighting with technology than tweaking the scope to achieve the finest result possible. Our seeing conditions don't help either.

It sounds like it could be a trapped nerve. Take a rest and let Darren do the chores :)

Take care.

Stu.

Good result given the conditions ALexandra, I hope your neck pain disappears quickly.

Thanks to Valery for the tips on processing.
