August 30th - with all filters
Hi everyone...
My first day of holidays on Monday offered mostly clear skies and moderate seeing. I did have to take a break as a band of cloud was drifting in during the WL and CaK image capture, but when I went back an hour later the skies were clear and no more cloud interruptions.
The fist images taken were full disk in Ha, CaK, and WL. The full disk was imaged through the LS80T/LS75FHa/B1800 + 1.6x barlow ahead of the ASI1600MM camera. The WL and CaK were imaged through the Orion EON 130EF OTA with the Lunt Solar Wedge/Baader Continuum and the CaK used the Lunt B1800CaK/Baader K-Line filter sets: I fought to get the CaK and WL high resolution images with variable cirrus cloud drifting through the field, but these are the images that worked out. A 5x Powermate was used to boost the focal length on the Orion scope, and the high res images of AR2860 produced decent images in both CaK and WL, and only the CaK image of AR2859 turned out very well. The ASI1600MM camera was used for both the WL and CaK: I returned to do the Ha series after the clouds cleared off and captured these Ha images using the DS modded Orion 130 OTA, with my home brew pair of Lunt DSII modules, B1800Ha, and 1.3x barlow ahead of the ASI290MM camera. First is AR2860 which was showing an incredible amount of detail and small flares: The mosaic below covers the northern disk where AR's 2859, 2861, and a new emerging region showing activity were found. In addition to the AR's, there were several filaments too: There were many proms along the eastern and western limb, shown in these mosaics: The last images I took were to try a circular polarizer that I mounted between the two etalons in an effort to reduce the glare and reflections. I think it is working out as my first impressions were that the disk features had more, and the limb features had less background brightness than without it. The images below had the polarizer in place...I just go the camera re-oriented and didn't fix it before image capture: I have a made up a more secure method to mount the polarizing filter and plan to keep it mounted behind the fist etalon.
As always, questions and comments are welcome.
Thanks and take care,
Brian

Re: August 30th - with all filters
Excellent presentation of your captures Brian.
I have both 1.25" & 2" polarizers and haven't yet tried them in front of the camera/or F-stoppers in front of the 80ED to see whether any improvements for HW-WL and Sodium, but when our weather eventually decides to allow, that needs to be done...
Thanks for sharing
Terry

Hi Brian,
I meant to mention that
East-Proms.jpg (232 KiB) Viewed 4 times
West-Proms.jpg (201.99 KiB) Viewed 4 times
SW-Filaprom-16x_OR130+Pol.jpg (227.35 KiB) Viewed 4 times
Each seemed to be slightly over-sharpened outside of the disk-suggests or something else...
Cheers

Hi Terry...
I saw that after posting, but haven't fixed it yet. I think my working version was zoomed out much more and the processing didn't look as aggressive on the screen.
