Session time is from 14:40 to 15:30 UTC. The skies are partly cloudy and the seeing is above average. The temperature is 64F ( 17.7C ).
Today I observed, took notes while doing so and left right away to visit my daughter in nearby Weaverville coming back home later in the evening to post my observations from my notes and reference GONG and SDO images. Better late than never.
Coronado SolarMax II 60 DS. 16x and 25x ( Ha )
I can see 7 plage/disturbed regions on the Ha solar disc today! AR12863 in the SE is the easiest to see. It's spot is visible in the NW reaches of the plage. To it's east near the limb is a much fainter but still visible plage. To the north in the NE quadrant I see a string of three plage disturbances. The middle of these is the easiest to see while the westernmost one is the most difficult. I see a couple of small dark filament NE of these near the limb. The NW shows with a close look the remains of AR12861 as a pale disturbance. I see 4 nice filaments NE of AR12861. I can see some ruffling of the chromosphere at the SW limb marking the location of the almost gone AR12860.
The mottles are not difficult today.
I almost forgot to list the prominences! The most notable is a bright loop prominence on the SW limb just below the area of the receding AR12860. I also see some nice prominences on the NE limb. Three easy bright ones, though small have a spinning/whirling look. One above them is taller. To the north still is a larger faint one. I would be curious to see an animation of these.
Orion 70mm Solar Telescope. 25x, 50x and 62.5x ( WL )
I can see 6 disturbed areas in white light today. I can see 10 spots/pores in AR12863! The large spot has some projections to the south part of it's umbra. The penumbra is somewhat oval and completely surrounds the umbra. Another small spot to the SE of the big one is easy to see. The rest are tiny pores. To the east of AR12863 I see a patch of faculae near the limb. I see no spots or pores within it. In the NE I see another spot group. It appears as a couple of small close together spots with what appears to be a arc shaped spot to it's SW. I think it's a line of unresolved pores and at times I can hint them but cannot cleanly separate them. Immediately to the east I see a vague patch of faculae and with a close look I can just make out two tiny pores there. If it wasn't for the SDO HMI continuum image showing me exactly where to look I never would have noticed them. I see another easier patch of faculae just off of the NE limb. I see no spots or pores there. I can still make out the faculae to AR12860 on the SW limb but the spot group has passed around the limb and out of sight.
The fine granulation can be seen without too much difficulty today.
Carpe Noctem!
James

Thanks for your detailed report, James. No chance of seeing anything from here for a few days.

Re: September 3 2021 Observations.
As Stu has just said, the U.K. weather (except for some of the S.W.), is not having the fun of seeing or capturing anything, thanks to the high-pressure remaining in charge.
And now I can confirm that there are in fact six AR's - four of which are numbered as AR2863 to AR2866, of which five are showing spots.
My post (sent in the last few minutes this morning), show these.
Thanks James for the more difficult report, which no doubt as things build-up to Solar Maxima will give you even more work to resolve...
Cheers
Terry

Re: September 3 2021 Observations.
Thanks James, that little one looks like a classic emerging flux region, it might grow fast! The Sun is trying to peak out of the clouds today here but I am not sure it will make it

Re: September 3 2021 Observations.
Thanks for your comments and input everyone. Good luck on finding the Sun.
Today the Sun has picked up since yesterday. More spots and more proms! I'll post today's observations later this evening.

Thanks for the detailed description, James, I, like many, have no options to see all this. Thanks again for keeping up to date.
