iPhone and DS90 fun

Post by EricF »

Here's a picture I took while on vacation last week in southern British Columbia.

This is a 10s video using an iPhone through the eyepiece of a Coronado 90mm DS scope. Ran the video through pipp and then into Registax and then into Affinity. The middle of the sun was completely blown out - can't reduce the exposure that far on the iPhone, so I turned it into an artificial eclipse.

Just something to play with while I decide what solar scope to get.

Great fun Eric and a good result using what you had at hand.

Prom imaging will often (if not always) have a blown-out disk, but you have well "eclipsed" that and the colouring is well done.

Welcome to Solarchat and the world of imaging and drawing..

Cheers
Terry

I use the iPhone quite a bit for solar imaging too and this one is as good as any image I have ever did. While it certainly won't approach the performance of a good monochrome camera made especially for astrophotography, smartphones are something most of us have with us and can do a decent job with patience, a few tries and a good editor. I admire those who use a DSLR for solar as well. Both smartphone and DSLR can give surprising results if one sticks with them and learns their strengths and weaknesses.

Wow!! what an amazing iPhone image, it is really difficult to get a good angle and correct exposure :bow :hamster:

A very warm and sunny welcome too :) I move this post to the main solarchat page where more will spot it :)
