September 6 2021 Observations. A spotty Sun. WL only.

Post by DeepSolar64 »

Session time is from 17:15 to 18:00 UTC. Very intermittent. The skies are 90 percent overcast. The seeing is well above average! The temperature is 74F ( 23.3C )

Orion 70mm Solar Telescope. 25x and 50x ( WL )
I can see six regions on the Sun today. 4 of these are nice spot bearing regions. Due to the clouds passing in and out I did not attempt counting the spots but I can say they are numerous. AR12864 now entering the NW Quad shows a double umbra spot surrounded by a common penumbra in it's southwestern part. NE of this is a scattered line of pores and small spots. AR12863 in the SW quad shows a nice round spot with a few pores nearby. This spot has a notch in the SSE part of it's umbra. I can actually hint mottling in the penumbra! This is rare with the 70mm scope at such a low magnification! ( 50x ). AR12868 in the SE shows a nice spot with umbra/penumbra in it's western part. I could hint mottling in it's penumbra and the umbra has a light bridge as well. East of it lies a scattering of spots. AR12866 shows three spots with penumbrae. This one looks really scattered about!

I can see a small patch of faculae to the southeast of AR12866 and AR12868. I also see the faculae to AR12861 near the NW limb.

The fine granulation is easily seen today due to the good seeing conditions.

Happy Labor Day!

James

Good record James, I love WL, especially now that there is so much there.

The spots really bring white light to life, don't they!?
