September 7 2021 Observations

Post by DeepSolar64 »

Session time is from 15:15 to 16:00 UTC. Intermittent. The skies are mostly cloudy. The temperature is 75F ( 23.8C ). Like yesterday the seeing is well above average.

Coronado SolarMax II 60 DS. 16x and 25x ( Ha )
I can see six active regions on the Ha solar disc. AR12865 in the NC area of the disc is difficult except for a single thin filament. AR12864 in the NW can be seen with two spots being easy. WL would later show one of these spots is actually a close grouping of numerous small spots and pores! AR12863 in the SW can be seen with a single spot among it's plage. AR12868 in the SE, approaching the CLM shows a scattered plage with several spots. East of it lies AR12866 with several spots being visible divided by a fairly large plage. I can see a small plage with no spots south of AR12866.

I notice only two filaments in the north, east and northeast of AR12865.

A large prominence is present on the NE limb. It has a pointed flame shape with a large gap at it's base. The NW shows an almost-loop prom. I can see a couple of small proms on the SW limb. I can see a single prom on the SE limb.

The mottles are easily seen across the disc.

Orion 70mm Solar Telescope. 25x, 50x, 62.5x ( WL )
AR12864 in the NW shows a triple-umbra surrounded by a penumbra in it's largest spot. East of it lies a cloud of small spots/pores intermingled in what appears to be a faint penumbra. Just NE of this " cloud " is a small spot. AR12863 shows a single well developed spot and a small pore. The spot has an umbra with a projection on it's SE side. It's a boy!! It's surrounded by a nice penumbra. AR12868 in the SE shows a large spot with an irregular umbra surrounded by a penumbra. A number of spots/pores lie immediately to it's east. AR12866 in the SE shows a wide scattering of spots and pores. 4 of these have involved penumbrae. 4 active regions are seen in all.

I noticed no faculae on the disc. The fine solar granulation is easily seen.

Today's music is:

Carpe Diem!

James

Lately, as a beginner, I have to look more often at spaceweatherlive so as not to get confused in all these AR's. Thank you for the excellent, detailed description of all these processes.

Likewise as Ivan, I made a copy of SpaceweatherLive's AR details and added them to the SDO image to remind me what is what with so many regions.
As the attached has been shown previous for the 4th, makes live quite easier. Shame that SpaceweatherLive actually put those names over the spots, but possibly done to those who might misuse their work. :| :?:

Thanks James again :movie
