NEW:- AR2869 IN THE FAR SOUTH AT 1700z 8-9-2021
Today a new AR has been rising in the far-south, consisting of three main but small spots.
AR2869 - Positioned south of the very-large AR2866 complex is making the region very active along with AR2868.
Hopefully they don't all flare at the same time, but then again !!!
Terry

Re: NEW:- AR2869 IN THE FAR SOUTH AT 1700z 8-9-2021
Terry,
I wonder if these small spots/pores east of AR12864 are magnetically connected to AR12864 or are a separate system? I'll attach a magnetogram image. They may be associated with nearby AR12865 but they look really close to AR12864 for that. I got these only as a small cloud of tiny pores today.
I got five pores in AR12829 south of AR12866.
I'll post tonight when I get home from work. I observed today and took down my notes but had stuff do do for the wifey and didn't have time to post today. Better a bit late than never I guess.
James

Re: NEW:- AR2869 IN THE FAR SOUTH AT 1700z 8-9-2021
Thanks vm James and yes I wasn't going to try and suggest that this AR was possibly the old 2865 as shown in the Gong image, as it was not being recognised as having spots, so no number being issued.
Your added SDO image as:- SDOHMIc_Greyscale_AR12864env_9-8-21.JPG (31.8 KiB) Viewed 18 times does not show the time of capture, so I could not include that in any comments. I usually (if not always) look for the capture/release time and date and either add-in to the image or at least the subject-line...
If and when spots re-occur in the same area, a new number may well be allocated, so that AR is just one to keep an eye on. My guess is that it could be numbered AR2870 - if it survives long enough, but several short-lived AR's have occurred recently, some un-numbered...
The same thing happened yesterday, with the AR (now numbered AR2869 today) where I just pointed to that with two very small spots, but as you say now it is showing up to five-spots around 17:00z today, so well deserved the numbering.
+++
Yes Mark "proper spots" is not a term heard of recently, but most appropriate now... And this is still the beginning of cycle #25, so imagine in 5-years or so, how difficult it will be to keep-up the identification of each set of spots, AR's etc... !!!
Clear Skies again please after the on-set of Thunder-Storms etc...

Re: NEW:- AR2869 IN THE FAR SOUTH AT 1700z 8-9-2021
Thank you James, so a very similar time as my cropped one, but from SDO's Hi-Resolution imagery direct, which shows much more detail, so that probably is why the difference between the two ??
(cropped against the edges of the disk, as a 4096 to save those MegaBytes)..

Your SDO image also out performed my visual view. My seeing was certainly below average today though.
My SDO image was just a little later than yours. 17:00 to 17:30 UT. Pores can change and come and go quite quickly. It was just after my observing session. I was being hit by a strong thunderstorm at that time. Hail and all!!

Thanks James and we had a near Thunderstorm overnight and rain, but nothing as serious as the national-forecast presented for the S.E., although Kent did get a bit of a bashing...
Cheers
