Which of these Sodium images do you prefer ?

Post by EGRAY_OBSERVATORY »

Please let me know which of these two Sodium images you prefer ? Thanks vm

Included is the grey-scale capture after stacking 75% of a 100-frame capture and otherwise unprocessed - all of the same capture.

Thank you Rainer and Alexandra.

Certainly with the Sodium captures, IMPPG does nothing useful to improve the stack and the un-processed grey-scale image.

I can't understand why the term "sharpening" is being used in the IMPPG manual, as adding these artefacts is doing the opposite thing.
Even after varying the settings, nothing useful seems to result.

Whereas in PaintShopPro, various stages of sharpening etc., are easily available and image "A" is done using that method...

If somebody-else wants to extract from the grey-scale image and try for a better IMPPG result, but not to use Photoshop at all, as I don't have that at all...

Thanks in advance
Terry

Thanks Marious and I agree too, but still more work to improve the Sodium side of imaging in four lights.

Thank you Eric for your opinion - which with other is quite important for future Sodium imaging.

You also have a good weekend too.
Cheers

Hi Terry.

Version A in this instance. Like others have said B is oversharpened.

Post some screen grabs of the settings you're using in ImPPG for sharpening. My money is on the sharpening radius being too high.

The other thing I would say is the seeing was bad or the focus was slightly off maybe looking at the b&w image?

Mark
