September 10 2021 Observations

Post by DeepSolar64 »

Session time is from 14:22 to 15:16 UTC. The skies are clear with fair seeing. The temperature is 66F ( 18.8C )

Coronado SolarMax II 60 DS. 16x and 25x ( Ha )
I can see 6 active regions today in Ha. AR12864 resides in the NW and is approaching the limb. It appears as a plage with an embedded spot at it's western end that takes a close look to see. AR12863 is even closer to the limb in the SW and harder to see. AR12866 and AR12868 are very easy to see in the SW quadrant. Spots can be seen within their plages. AR12869 is visible to the SSE of AR12866. The now numbered AR12870 is visible as a small but not difficult plage in the SE not far inward from the limb.

Filaments abound in the northern hemisphere. I see what appears to be a long broken filament running diagonally from SC to NE. The SDOAIA304 image reveals it to actually be a single connected filament. I can see four other filaments in the NW quadrant.

I can see some prominences on the eastern and western limb. None are especially spectacular in DS in the 60. The brightest is on the SW limb.

The mottles are eaily seen today across the solar disc.

Orion 70mm Solar Telescope. 25x and 50x ( WL )
I can get 7 active regions on the white light disc today. I can see a single spot in AR12864 which has a penumbra. SDOHMIc shows a small pore SE of it. I did not notice the pore. The faculae is bright eastward of the spot. I can also faintly see the faculae of AR12865 east of AR12864. AR12863 is visible as a bright faculae very near the SW limb with an embedded spot at it's NW end that sports a penumbra. It's angle is highly inclined to our point-of-view. AR12868 sports a single larger spot with a penumbra that is larger at it's SW. Smaller spots reside to it's NW and SE. The rest are numerous pores. No faculae yet visible with it. The next day or two should bring them into view as it approaches the SW limb. AR12866 is the largest and easiest to see AR spot grouping on the disc. Most of the spots lie interlaced in penumbrae.Their umbrae are small and tattered. I think this system will decay soon. I see AR12869 as a grouping of 5 spots/pores. I see AR12870 only as a small patch of faculae near the SE limb.

The fine solar granulation is visible today.

Happy Friday!!

James

Sorry Mark. Clouds again. ☁️ I know it’s not the same but I’ll try to get a view in for ya. Enjoy the pub. Eat good and drink good beer! 🥘 🍻.
