Changing Face of Our Sun- September 16th-22nd

Post by Carbon60 »

I thought this might be of interest. It's a montage of full disk images taken over a period of one week that shows how quickly the face of our Sun can transition from blank to one peppered with active regions. The period covered is September 16th to 22nd inclusive, so about one quarter turn of the solar sphere.

Apologies for the variability in image quality, particularly on the 22nd as this one was taken mid-afternoon under less than optimum conditions.

In between times we have seen the growth, evolution and decay of beautiful proms and a huge filament that ended up blasting a CME from the surface as it collapsed. AR12871 even produced an M-class flare yesterday. Things are pepping up :)

Thanks for looking.

Stu.

Interesting presentation, Stu. The sun reminded me of a flower that slowly opened and fascinated with its beauty.
