September 23 2021 Observations

Post by DeepSolar64 »

Session time is from 14:15 to 15:15 UTC. The skies are clear with below average to poor seeing. The temperature is a cool 57F ( 13.8C ). Windy.

Coronado SolarMax II 60 DS. 16x and 25x ( Ha )
I can see eight active regions on the solar disc today! AR12872 is visible as an almost circular ringlike plage visible approaching the central longitudinal meridian in the north. Well to it's east lies a small plage. The NW shows AR12873. Below AR12873 lies two plages. AR12874 and AR12875 close together. To their west lies a fainter plage. AR12871 in the SE shows more detail than the others with a thin filament wrapping around it from the east to the north and a couple of filaments to the south. It also has a visible spot at the center of it's irregular plage. There is also a visible disturbance to it's NE.

Outside of the filaments associated with AR12871 I can see a dark filament in the far NE near a small plage. There is also three near/above AR12873 in the NW.

In double stack the most visible prominence is on the NW limb. It does show some detail within it.

The mottles are soft today but easily visible.

Orion 70mm Solar Telescope. 25x and 50x ( WL )
I can see eight regions in white light also. AR12872 is visible by it's spots. I can see six of them. Well to it's east I see faculae at the NE limb. To it's west I see 5 spots/pores that are associated with AR12873 in the NW. I can see three faint but visible faculae in the SW quadrant. The SDO HMI continuum image shows pores in two of them. AR12874 and AR12875. I cannot see them visually. AR12871 is a somewhat triangular mass of spots. They are hard to see detail in because of the seeing but SDOHMIc shows them to be a fused spot system with several embedded umbrae within a common penumbra. I can see some faint faculae to their SE. There is also a faint patch of faculae to the NE of AR12871. SDO HMIc shows a couple of pores within it but I cannot see them.

The fine granulation is visible but is really soft and takes a close look to see at all.

Carpe Noctem!

James

Many thanks, James. Glad you got to see the Sun. Just clouds here.

Thanks James for your latest and even though some AR's are leaving us, there are two approaching to take over.

~Correction~. East to the North on the filament of AR12871. I mistakenly put " West ".

Thanks and welcomes everyone. And my little " SolarCat " Lily joined me at the scope.

James
