September 26 2021 Observations

Post by DeepSolar64 »

Session time is from 14:52 until 15:45 UTC. The skies are partly cloudy. The seeing is surprisingly good. The temperature is 63F ( 17.2C ). Today's observations are from my daughter's place in Weaverville N.C.

Coronado SolarMax II 60 DS. 16x, 21.5x, 25x and 33x ( Ha )
The good seeing really assisted me in seeing finer detail amd more features today. I got seven easy active regions on the Sun today. From east to west, North. Unnumbered, unnumbered, AR12872. From east to west , South. AR12878, AR12877, unnumbered, AR12876-71. Not sure on the last one since SolarMonitor and SpaceWeatherLive differ on their numbers and location on these active regions. Visually this looks like a single system. In addition to these I could pick up disturbances just north of AR12872 and a tiny faint circular plage SW of a prom on the NE limb. A disturbance can also be seen near the NW limb without too much difficulty. I also picked out two small oval slightly lighter areas in the chromosphere NW and SE of a double filament located there in the SW. These took a close look to see. Filaments are easily seen around AR12871 in the SW. A dark filament is also easily seen near the NW limb.

I can see prominences, though nothing spectacular on the SE, NE and NW limb. A small one on the NE limb is the easiest to see.

The mottles are easy and stand out well in today's above average seeing conditions.

Orion 70mm Solar Telescope. 25x and 50x ( WL )
I got seven active regions in WL. 8 spots/pores in AR12876-71 in the SW with two spots having penumbrae. The faculae to this system(s) is barely visible. Two small pores are seen in an AR to the northeast of AR12876-71. The SE quad shows a group of 4 spots/pores with attending faculae. It's easternmost spot is the easiest to see. AR12872 in the NW shows 7 spots/pores. One stands out larger than the others. Small faculae are seen near the NE and SE limb. I can also see an easy patch of faculae almost on the NW limb which belongs to AR12873.

The fine granulation of the photosphere is easily seen.

Carpe Noctem!

James

Thanks James, sounds like you enjoyed the good seeing :hamster: is there any reason you set up in the strange square box and not on the lawn? The lawn would give better seeing I would think.

SUNday was a very beautiful day here! I think the square pad where I set up was once the floor for a shed which has since been torn down. I didn't even think about the seeing when I set up. The pad was level so I chose there. The seeing turned out nice regardless. Much better than the following day. :-(

James, as always, an excellent and detailed description of all the processes seen. I'm glad the visibility was good yesterday. What a beautiful place, at first I also thought that you were clearing the site for the observatory.
